The Sedins? They have carried that offense for years. Their PP will be very good as well. Anything Kesler adds will be a bonus.

Kassian should continue to develop. Booth? Higgins?

They also will get a significant contribution from their blue-line with Edler, Hamhuis and Garrison back there who all have good shots. I think they will be fine.

Vancouver tied for 19th in scoring last year at 2.54 goals per game (Rangers 15th at 2.63).

Raymond is gone. They might get a small boost from Higgins and/or Booth over last years numbers. Kassian hasn't shown yet that he can score at this level, nor has Schroeder.

The Sedins will still put up their numbers and if Kesler comes back healthy and produces like he can, that will certainly help. But after them, that roster is thin.

Washington looks rugged on Offense

MoJo (resigns) – Bäckström – Ovechkin
Erat – Grabo – Brouwer
Fehr – Laich – Ward
Beagle - Perrault - Chimera
Volpatti

Not a bad team up front by any measure
Big and tough on the lower lines as well
A bit weaker on the backend though

That lineup smells of another 1st round series against the Rangers :help:.

Detroit logjam up front

Detroit has an interesting situation

They are apparently offering Cleary a new deal on the cheap with already 16 forwards on the team and no apparent cap space. Samuelsson and possibly Helm will most likely start the year on LTIR (sending Nyqvist down until he can be recalled) meaning that they would still be one player too much. Tootoo is according to inside sources likely going to be traded for a pick/prospect, maybe to Nashville, but also the Islanders or Panthers apparently are in the bidding too. If Tootoo is moved without taking back salary then I guess they can squeeze through it by having 1-2 players on LTIR for a month, then they most likely will need to move someone

DETROIT RED WINGS 2013/2014

Moved for prospect/pick - not taking back NHL salary/roster spot
Jordin Tootoo ($1.900m)

FORWARDS
Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($5.500m)
Stephen Weiss ($4.900m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Todd Bertuzzi ($2.075m)
Tomas Tatar ($0.840m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m) / Joakim Andersson ($0.733m)
Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Cory Emmerton ($0.533m) / Danny Cleary ($1.200m)
Drew Miller ($1.350m) / Patrick Eaves ($1.200m)

DEFENSEMEN
Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Kyle Quincey ($3.775m)
Jonathan Ericsson ($3.250m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m)
Danny DeKeyser ($1.350m) / Brendan Smith ($1.263m)
Brian Lashoff ($0.725m)

GOALTENDERS
Jimmy Howard ($5.292m)
Jonas Gustavsson ($1.500m)

LTIR to start season
Mikael Samuelsson ($3.000m)
?? Darren Helm ($2.125m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000
CAP PAYROLL: $67,247,879
BONUSES: $3,010,000
CAP SPACE (25-man roster - with 2 players on LTIR): $62,121

I DEFINITELY THINK THIS TEAM LOOKS INTERESTING AND WILL RAISE A FEW HEADS BEING IN THE NEW CONFERENCE IN THE EAST! A little weak physically maybe (especially when Tootoo leaves) but defintely going to ignite some classic Original 6 matchups in that division. Huge skillset. And The Monster as a backup - WOW :naughty: What do you think?

If you have to show people evidence why your joke was funny...

You don't see -31- doin' that, huh? :sarcasm:
I actually do that all the time.

Luongo sounds miserable to still be a Canuck. Look at the James Duthie timeline of tweets. He discussed walking away from his contract and "blacked out" when VAN moved Schneider instead of him.

It sounds to me like he's trying to make it very difficult for the Canucks to keep him. There's another amnesty buy-out period next summer.

I thought Torts was going to smooth this out.

I once made a joke that people laughed -- extremely -- hard at. It was about how Melos wife, Lala, and my name, Ola, would be joked about if we were together.

There will inevitably be a main board rumor about Lundqvist and Luongo trading teams next offseason.

As an outsider I don't understand what went wrong in Vancouver for Luongo. Why is he unhappy? Does he feel like the playoff failures of a strong regular season team the past several years are being blamed on him? The guy always appears to be down about still being a Canuck.

Haven't been keeping up the saga eh?

There is a lot of pressure there, and that can get to a player.

From an outside observer, I just think they overrated their team alot. The Sedins are very strong, and due to having them they got so much else for free. During the regular season, their Ds could play good hockey and some other forwards stood out.

But I have just always been puzzled about like talk of Van having the top blueline in the league, guys like Salo, Bieksa and co are good but they hardly lead the best blueline in this league.

When it mattered, they had extreme expectations and and just not all that much to put on the table. Hence you get scapegoats, and Luongo has been one of them.

In the end, it can't be easy to be on a team that always does a little better than what they should but instead of getting praised is killed in the press.

Think the Habs fans are just desperate for the season to start cause they are into an 800 post discussion with the Doug Murray signing.

There was a 1100 post discussion here about the irrelevance of Boyle empty net goal versus Carolina.

I'm not sure where to put this, but has anyone read Travis Yost's tweets today?

Someone has been hacking his hockeybuzz account and taking down all posts. Apparently he was writing controversial stuff about Melnyk and Ottawa's finances. It also seems like he has been able to trace the hacking attempts to a charity organization that Melnyk is an honorary director for.

I mean it all sounds too much, but still...

E: The story was deleted once again, he is apparently going to post it on a secure 3rd party site instead.

E2: It is available once again: http://tyost.blog.com/2013/08/25/the-ukraine-hackers-and-charity/
