Corey Pronman ranks Jonathan Audy-Marchessault as the Blue Jackets' 4th best prospect. He's the only player to finish Top-10 in AHL scoring in each of the past two seasons.

4. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault, Left Wing
2011-12 Rank: 7th
Date of birth: 12/27/1990
Age: 22
Height: 5'9''
Weight: 180
Shoots: Right
Statistics: 74 GP, 21 G, 67 P (Springfield, AHL)
Acquired: Free agent

Year in Review: Audy-Marchessault had yet another great AHL season, finishing top 10 in league scoring for the second straight year, as well as getting a small cup of tea in the NHL.

The Good: Audy-Marchessault has all the offensive tools. He is a quick skater with good top speed. He is very skilled, bringing energy and a high pace, and makes a lot of plays with the puck. He has above-average all-around hockey sense. A former Rangers prospect, Audy-Marchessault is hard working; he battles for loose pucks, and he can kill penalties effectively.

The Bad: His only real issue is his size. Audy-Marchessault has some defensive value, but his value in the NHL likely has to come from offense, so the physical game question mark remains. He can be neutralized because of that weakness, sometimes enduring stretches without doing much.

Projection: He could be a second line forward
.

Pronman also ranked Tim Erixon as the third-best Under-22 player in the organization.

Erixon played in all situations in the AHL, where he displayed great puck-moving skill. His NHL time was inconsistent, as he had very impressive stretches at times, but it was also evident that he still has to work on getting stronger, as well as adjusting to the NHL level of play.

Landeskog extended, 7 years $39M $5.57M AAV.

I love Lando, but that is steep.

Steep indeed but at 7 years, I think it'll be okay. The game Landy plays makes him rich man's Callahan and as the future of the franchise and the captain of the team, $5.57M AAV for 7 years will be fine. The contracts that are given out nowadays and with the expected hype in salary and cap, it might be over payment for 2-3 years depending on how he does or how well the Avs do but if at any point he reaches the level that he's capable of reaching (injuries and shorten season last year) with the right crew around him AND a COMPETENT coach, his contract will work out just fine. It's not exactly easy to under cut your captain, face of franchise, and all star calibre player.

Keep it in your pants.

It isn't exactly Sherman's MO to skip the 2nd contract, so you can understand something like this for their captain. He signed Duchene to a bridge deal and then forced O'Reilly into a holdout. And hey, Landeskog got less than Stastny, so Sherman is learning from his mistakes.

Joe Sakic and Patrick Roy are running the Avs hockey operation. They gave Duchene the long-term extension.

Looking at the west. Is Vancouver making the playoffs?

Realignment put them in a much tougher division with the California teams. Vancouver had a layup every year for the division with Minnesota,Edmonton,Calgary and Colorado.

Vancouver
LA
SJ
Anaheim
Coyotes
Flames
Oilers

Chicago
Blues
Stars
Wild
Avs
Jets
Predators

Its not going to be easy for Vancouver. The 3 California teams should finish 1-2-3 in the division. The other division has 3 playoff teams from last season in Chicago,STL and Minnesota which should all be very good again. Dallas will be better. If one of the young teams like Colorado and Edmonton takes the next step, they will be in the wildcard mix. Nashville could be a playoff team again. Phoenix could bounce back after a down year. Tortorella has his work cut out for him.

I personally think Montreal or Toronto would be great places to go to as players, but its kind of supriseing that when everything is said and done, nobody goes there.

I recon Malkin could force a trade to just about any place (a shortlist) he decides for, if he wants it.

Hells no! Both cities are completely hockey crazy. You are watched and filmed (nowadays) 24/7 in those two cities. You can't fart without the whole city knowing about it. A lot of players wilt badly under that kind of pressure cooker.

Anaheim is a wild card team at best, Vancouver should have little trouble getting into the top 3. The Kings and the Sharks are the favourites to win the division though.

Anaheim's success was a short season anomaly like Toronto's. But instead of going from bottom dweller to bubble team like TOR, they went from bubble team to top team. Abnormally high shooting percentages in close games inflated their record, much like it deflated the Rangers' record.

Viktor Fasth is a stud though and has a history of carrying teams, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if they got 4th or 5th and a wild card.

The Vancouver roster doesn't have much depth. Kesler is a major question mark because of his health. Sedin twins. Burrows. Not much else. Depth at center. Depth on D. They are looking at signing Douglas Murray. Kesler has had so many injuries in the last 2 years. Hip. Shoulder. Wrist. Broken foot. The whole Luongo deal. He wanted out of Vancouver and Gillis traded Schneider. Luongo hasn't really embraced playing for Vancouver after it looked he was odd man out. He has made some jokes about his situation. Vancouver doesn't have a back-up for him. Tortorella going in there. He will look to weed out some guys. Gillis wants to add youth to the roster but they don't have many young players. Horvat is 18 years old. Guance is 19.

They don't have a back-up with NHL experience, but they have high hopes for Eddie Lack.

Yeah, that Luongo situation...wow. Colossal screwup with that whole deal. (I don't think even Mad Mike could screw up a situation that badly  )

Man, if Luongo fails to report to camp, or starts the season slowly, that's going to be one hell of a circus....

Game 7 Avs vs Devils 2001 on NHL Network

what a great game this was........ it was great to see Ray Bourque finally get his name on the cup.. they had a good mix of vets and some youth.

i miss Bill Clement's voice during nationally televised games.

Chris Drury and Milan Hejduk was only 24... they also had players like Deadmarsh, Poedin, Nieminen, De Vries.

Another case of "will overpay for potential."

He already brings a pretty well rounded game. After his rookie season, this is his second full season with things in proper order, a competent coach, team, not missing any key players to start the season (ROR), no injuries etc. By the end of the year, the contract which doesn't start until next year anyway, might well be worth every penny and especially considering the years of UFA it buys out and the years where he's going to be worth more than that.

But they could have waited until he's an RFA and still get him for less. What do you think he will have to do to be worth that much by the end of this upcoming season?

So far, Stepan has done more and he's not going to get that much. Hopefully.

NHL Network's been killin it lately with all the past finals games. Carolina and Edmonton right now

SJ finished 6th in the West last season and 7th the season before, what have they done to improve so much that they would be a favorite to win the division???

Vancouver has the best defense in that division. Torts will put all his faith and support into Luongo and I suspect Luongo will rebound. That team is still 1 or 2 in that division.

Where is the offense coming from? Kesler will need to get back to his 10-11 form for that team to win that division. Kesler hasn't been helathy since the playoff series against Nashville in 2011. Not much else besides the Sedin twins and Burrows. Booth hasn't been the same player since Richards concussed him. Booth is coming off another injury and has spent the summer rehabbing the injury. Not much offense there.

The Sedins? They have carried that offense for years. Their PP will be very good as well. Anything Kesler adds will be a bonus.

Kassian should continue to develop. Booth? Higgins?

They also will get a significant contribution from their blue-line with Edler, Hamhuis and Garrison back there who all have good shots. I think they will be fine.
