It's not a good team on paper, but that doesn't always tell the full story.

I'm banking on the Oilers too have a big season, fwiw.

A lot hinges on Visnovsky being as good as he was last season, he was a huge part of their offence 5v5. He is getting up there in years.

Re: Kessel.

Great contract for the Leafs, compare it to Perry's and you'll understand why.

Kessel would be a consistent 90p+ player if they had the sense to separate him from Bozak 5v5.

The cap is going to be growing steadily, so it's natural that contracts are going to start getting larger than they used to be.

That combined with the limit on years and variance within the contract itself. What we're seeing is basically the same contracts being signed, but with a more realistic view of the cap hit.

I'm way more amused by Philly signing Hal Gill, by the way.

Ridiculous move, I'm not sure what they are thinking. He could perhaps still have some value on the PK, but 5v5?

And they already have Grossmann, who is basically the same type of player but not as big a liability 5v5. No team needs two of that type.

Hell, you are probably better off without one altogether.

All this talk on NHL network by some of the guys about Philly taking the next step with their goaltending issues of the past (with the exception of Barry Melrose who ridiculed them)....I sit here and laugh. Emery split time in Chicago with a solid defense in front of him that ended up being a stanley cup winning team. And Steve Mason? Seriously? He hasn't been a sure starter in years. Couple those two factors with still an inept defensive 6 (keyword: defensive) and you have a team that will need to score at LEAST 3 goals a game to win imo. You cant survive that way.

Emery can be pretty good sometimes but I don't think he's even healthy enough to be a fulltime starter without his hips falling apart, and he was definitely carried by the strongest team in the league last year...

Hey guys, does anyone know if NHL Center Ice will be doing their trial at the beginning of the season? I feel like they usually do this to bait people in. I could be wrong though.

I'm waiting for a response on the verizon chat they have to support. It better be some tech difficulty.

I'm on my game center live account at work, and it's gorgeous. I'm glad I went with GCL, because i can't download anything onto the work computer, and Hockeystreams wouldn't have worked

I think we should light a bobble head of Torts on fire and pass it around during our players introduction.

cool torch brahs.

I guess they are trying to plan their contingency plan of not winning the Stanley Cup early this year. I guess raising anything will do at this point..

But, really who the hell thought this was a good idea for an opening ceremony? WAY too long and pretentious...

Parce que Canadiens.
