That Yzerman thing is odd, hope all is ok with he and his family and this was/is more about some work/life balance

While everyone immediately assumes he's going to the Wings, I doubt TB would make it that simple. This seems like it has some personal stuff attached.

He only has one more year on his TB deal. I was listening to a Lightning podcast and the general feeling is that Yzerman was likely approached by the owner to extend his deal and when he was unwilling to commit, it set the ball rolling.

Brisebois is in demand as a GM, so if Yzerman wants to go back to DET, this is probably the best time. JB gets promoted to GM, Yzerman stays on for a year to help, and the transition is seamless before he goes back to the Wings.

His family has always stayed in Michigan even after he left DET, so a move back “home” would allow him to work for a franchise he loves and be close to his wife and daughters.

Win-win.

I don't feel like finding the article right now but he was saying he wanted to be closer to his family, he said waking up and flying to Detroit at 6 am on a frequent basis was really taking a toll on him and he didn't want to do it anymore, he is going to be living in Detroit this season. I imagine he is going to get a job with the Wings once his contract with the Lightning is up.
