I think I like this deal better for the Sabres. The Isles are gambling that Vanek can attain the chemistry with Taveras that Moulson did. The Sabres get good assets and a player they can move at the deadline easier than they could have Vanek, and get additional assets.

this is why the Sabres won this trade.. imagine if they can get another 1st for Moulson at the deadline

A little early to say who won the deal...if Vanek shows chemistry with Taveras, and then re-signs and remains productive, the Isles get what they want from the deal. I just like the deal better from the Sabres vantage point.

I think it's a good move for NYI, but I've always been expecting them to spend more/trade assets for production as Brooklyn gets closer and closer.

We won this trade.....

We didn't overpay for vanek.

He's a good guy for a team one guy away. Isles ain't that

Buf could conceivably turn an aging vanek into 3 high picks.

Isles taking the Caps approach--suspect defense and goaltending, trying to score a ton of goals each night.

Like it for Buffalo.

i count only 2 there lol:sarcasm:

There are more, I'm just lazy

Will Vanek and JT find the chemistry?
Now that the Isles don't have a first-rounder this year, it's going to be tough for them to grab a goalie or a defenseman if they need one at the deadline.

What will the Sabres do with MM? Flip him, or re-sign him?

i stand corrected :D

This is the last thing the Isles needed, especially with their balanced lines.

Moulson getting traded is a shot to the gut. The 1st rounder is just insulting.

Ryan Smyth trade 2.0.

Roster-wise it's a 1-for-1 move, and a pretty significant upgrade, IMO. Their lines are still incredibly balanced.

Buffalo is really stockpiling. Crazy to think this team was young and the elite of the elite in 2007, and it all collapsed like a house of cards.

Buffalo still has nothing significant to show for the gutting of that team. So many left via UFA for nothing.

This does nothing to address the fact that they cannot defend nor is their goalkeeping anything special.

Not gonna lie tho, their top 6 craps all over us big time

I hope he doesn't re-sign. That would be hilarious.

You mention the Sabres could always flip Moulson for draft picks if he doesn't wanna sign a new contract. Guess what the Isles can do the same thing with Vanek and probably get more than Buffalo gets for Moulson.

If the Sabres can get a #1 for Moulson, guess what the Isles can get for Vanek if it doesn't work out at the deadline ? For Christ's sake, the Predators got a GREAT prospect for Martin friggen Erat.

More picks isn't what they need. They always get a high 1st rounder.

If true, and he doesn't resign, better to keep mm and your 2 picks I would think.

Having vanek around long enough to win a playoff round or just moving him to a contender receiving back a late 1st rounder back seems sketchy.

He either resigns or it's a so-so deal.

I would be concerned that sather may be making deals for the piles...

Very "meh" on that trade.

I think Vanek is very overrated, which is the reason the Sabres could have gotten more for him. Molson is a good player, but nothing special. A first as well but still...

Quite frankly I wouldn't be thrilled as a fan of either team.

Then why make that trade in the first place? Would it not end up being a lateral move if they trade him to restore the picks they just lost?

Would think Snow would have tried to move another piece and held onto Moulson to have both in the lineup. They could have had:

Moulson - Tavares - Grabner
Vanek - Nielson - Okposo
Bouchard - Bailey - Regin
