He could turn out to be the exception, but in general it is extremely inadvisable to give a player with Copp's play style a big contract well into his 30s.
I agree completely. Copp was underutilized and mismanaged as an asset in Winnipeg due to many factors but the time to have signed him to a managable longer term deal came and went earlier in his career. I loved Copp but I wanted no piece of this next contract just like I want no piece of Scheifele’s next contract.

I think the majority of the players are mismanaged on this team due to POOR coaching.
Seriously when the players come out and tell the media ... you know you have a problem.
Look at the Rangers last game players TOI ... 1st place on the line everybody plays
ALL Forwards TOI was from 16:34 to 13:01 ... Copp 13:16 their top forward Panarin 14:59
ALL Defencemen TOI was from 17:45 to 22:51 ... Miller (2nd year) had the highest at 22:51 Fox their best D man 21:10.
If Maurice was coach Fox would be over 25 minutes and Miller under 10 mins or in the PB.

I didn't realise Nathan Smith is now in the NHL (with Arizona) and scored his 2nd goal tonight! (in his 7th game)

So...Guy Lafleur, a multi-Stanley Cup champion, gets a national funeral.

While Dale Hawerchuk (0 Cups) gets a pond hockey tournament, that subsequently gets cancelled.

We could conclude that we started by drafting the wrong guy. Then we failed to develop/use him to full potential. Then we traded him for too little.

Roslovic is the biggest bungling by Maurice imo. He is exact type of player that you want playing a big role on a third scoring line or a complimentary type role in the top 6. He was a poor fit with Lowry on a checking line. A third scoring line of Perrault/Copp/Roslovic would have given this team a lot the two years prior to him being dealt.

Still he's essentially a low end second liner at this point in his career so he's not some elite Ayer we lost.

We could have used him this year though.

We were told that CBJ really wanted him in the deal, so we should have got a 1st, a 2nd at the very least.

I get you don't like Adam Lowry, but the problem with Roslovic was with Roslovic. He had a good run with 2015 line. But he wasn't dominant when Little went down, and he got top 6 duty. As a checking line winger he would float from time to time, and the agressive forecheck that he was capable of we didn't always get. I do think that Perreault-Copp-Roslovic would have been a good line, but your insistence that Adam Lowry as a 3rd line centre is the reason for all this team's failure isn't necessarily true. Roslovic's fate was signed when the Jets roomed him with Brendan Lemieux, and Lemieux's dad became his agent, after Brendan was moved out.

Yeah I haven't watched him lately but Roslovic was pretty bad for the CBJ last season after a hot start and similarly bad to start off this season. I haven't watched then since December so maybe he's turned the corner but he wasn't looking too good and frequently playing 4th line wing.

I don't dislike Lowry at all. I think he's a useful piece for any team to have. What I dislike is the insistence to run him in a specific spot consistiently, especially when the results aren't there. I feel that the org trying to force him into that role no matter the other pieces hurt the team and hurt some development the last few years. If you have pieces ro run a dominat checking line like in 17-18 then you build that type of third line but imo we didn't have those pieces the last number of years and instead had pieces to run a scoring third line system but chose to double down on a checking line that wasn't getting the job done.

Ah ha, Vegas chocked their lead away last night and losses in the shootout. Now three points out with 3 games left.

Come on Dallas put the dagger in on Tuesday. A loss for Vegas all buts eliminate them.

I think a loss on Tuesday actually does eliminate them, though that may not be technically true if it's a 3 point game. I don't know who owns the tiebreaker.

It's also looking like we'll get a Calgary Edmonton 2nd round series. That's gonna be spectacular.
