Ya a crapastic night on the out of town scoreboard last night. Jets better be like......

FYI - the context of this gif from Yellowstone.

She is in sexy black lingerie and asks her husband to F her. He tells her to go to sleep. So she says "I'll go do it myself", meaning she will go F herself.

I hope the Jets don't F themselves tonight!

As per the LTIR:

Bettman said LTIR was discussed with the GMs, but "nobody in that room believes it's been abused." The concern stems from teams over the years appearing to have abused LTIR in order to save cap space during the season and have those same players appear during the playoffs (e.g., Tampa Bay Lightning and Nikita Kucherov last season), as well as the recent doubts about the intentions around LTIR of the Vegas Golden Knights. Bettman said the system has worked well for 17 years and, after discussing it with the NHL Players' Association, "it's not a front-burner issue that's going to be addressed anytime soon."

"Nobody in that room believes it's been abused" .... Then everyone in that room is an idiot and the Jets should start cheating like the others.

Funny.
I wonder what % of fans of the other 30 teams think it has been abused?

Its PR... he can't say we are reviewing the rules because the Stanley Cup champions cheated haha

No, you're right. But he could say that they recognize the bad optics and therefore are going to tweak the rule so as to remove any perception that abuse is taking place.

True but this is also a man who has uttered the words 'there are no issues with Arizona' and 'this is a good market'... so the bar is set low.

That's true. From the reports going into the GM meetings, it sounded like they were really going to do something about it. Now not so much. Apparently Bettman is good with his favourite teams cheating. Don't know why he allowed Ari to be punished for their offense.

New Seattle Jerseys for Pride Night. Yikes...

I know one demographic that wont be buying these fashion fauxpas.

Might be popular for people heading to Hawaii though... or Walmart...

Friedman:

There was a show of hands on how many managers really felt something needs to be done with a salary cap for the playoffs. Enough hands were raised that the NHL promised to discuss it with the NHLPA, but it’s also pretty clear the league isn’t enthused about “giving up” something to change the CBA. One GM laughed last summer that none of this would be an issue if Nikita Kucherov hadn’t openly bragged about it in the aftermath of Tampa winning the Cup in 2021, and still has the same opinion. Lesson: If you don’t sell “$18M over the cap” T-shirts when you win it all, this all goes away.

One GM suggested privately that players such as Ryan Kesler, Bryan Little and Shea Weber should not be available for trade. If he gets injured for you, you can use for LTIR, but no one else. However, there are others who completely disagree.

If they got rid of being able to trade players on LTIR how would Arizona ever get to the cap floor? :naughty:

Also from Friedman:

Earlier this month, NFL wide receiver Calvin Ridley was suspended the entire 2022 season for gambling on games. In the aftermath, the NHL sent out a reminder memo that betting on any NHL game “Is absolutely prohibited, even in jurisdictions where sports betting is legal.” The policy applies to all GMs, coaches, players, officials, league and club executives, and all other league and club employees. (I didn’t realize it extended to that many people.) Violation of the rule could result in expulsion, suspension, cancellation of a contract or fines.

I like the suggestion of continuing to allow teams' rosters to be over the cap by as much as they like during PO, but the 20 men they dress for a game must be within the cap. It is a compromise solution that would discourage the most flagrant abuses that we have seen these last couple of years.

I can understand a reluctance to re-open the CBA at this time to make the change. The NHLPA would likely try to get some concession in return for accepting the change. It is something for the next time the CBA is open for negotiation though.

The issue was not raised by Kucherov bragging about it. It was suspected long before the season ended - lo and behold, he was activated just in time for the first game, exactly as expected.

If Vegas doesn't make the playoffs and is suddenly in cap hell, Bettman will make changes asap...
