Around the NHL 2025 playoff edition

"A little" being the operative phrase. If it's as uninspired of a hire as I think it will be, it won't buy them much time, and the price for us trading for Quinn becomes more palatable.

Won't get him this offseason if Quinn is making the moves alongside the Vancouver brass, I still think if Petterson goes back to elite form for them that will be the best case scenario for Vancouver. You can't just have 11.6M in the cap era on a 1C that's giving you 50-60 points

I know a couple of forwards I would like to trade from Buffalo.

If the rumor is that Quinn had a big say in the Foote hire then we might have to wait a little longer for him in NJ. That being said, I don't know why Quinn would want him. Completely different players, maybe he wanted a defense man so he'd have more leash with his play?

Can Foote actually be a good head coach? He didn't even know how to teach his son not to be a piece of shit.

This feels ominous if I was a Canucks fan.
It reeks of a safe hire, and as we all know, safe is death. I think in the long-term, promoting Malhotra would have been the right move. The low-event defensive system under Tocchet was painful to watch and Foote seems like a continuation of that. At least Malhotra might unleash some of the forwards, especially Petey, back to a level of production that they once had.

Now I want to see Malhotra go to the American side of the sound and become Seattle's next head coach. It'll be hilarious.

Yea they just seem obsessed with performance and don’t let themselves get caught up in the coaching carousel

I think Vegas is kind of in trouble - they have almost no young players and nobody's getting cheaper. Plus Stone keeps missing half the games.

They'll be a popular UFA destination (with an ownership group willing to spend) so that might help them fill some holes. I haven't seen any updates but there were some posts about Vegas potentially landing KHL undrafted free agent Maxim Shabanov soon.

Their D is mostly locked in for the near future. We'll see if Nic Hague ends up getting squeezed out and replaced internally by Kaedan Korczak who looked decent enough when Zac Whitecloud was injured.

C: Eichel-Hertl-Karlsson
LW: Barbashev-Dorofeyev-Howden
RW: Stone-Roy-Kolesar

LD: Hanifin-McNabb-Hague
RD: Pietrangelo-Theodore-Whitecloud-Korczak
G: Hill-Schmid

Targeting a top 9 winger in free agency seems doable.

The lack of prospects would catch up to them eventually but their owner is 80 so he probably figures that's somebody else's problem. Mike Ilitch had the same mentality with the Wings/Tigers and they entered painful rebuilds after Ilitch passed away.

They'll be in decent shape for a couple of years, but their window is probably closing.

It's a fine group, but I just don't think it's enough to go anywhere in the playoffs and they've only got ~$9M in cap space to work with this off-season. Stone being hurt half the time doesn't help matters.
