What in the world?

I can’t believe how much teams love these ancient has-beens.

I expect it from the Islanders, but the Kings?
You don't expect it from the team that kept Dean Lombardi too long and allowed a Cup-winning roster rot into one that missed the playoffs in the COVID-shortened season? I don't know what to tell you. Every front office likes old hockey men. A big reason why I'm not on the "fire Fitz" train yet is because some of the devils you know are significantly worse than the devil you know and currently have running the team. I want to believe they'd just put in Madigan if it came to that, but I did use "men" as a descriptor for a reason.

Nolan Foote actually could use a fresh start. Unrelated to Quinn, it may be good for Nolan and the team to make a small move.

Well that gives the hire a lot of context: a last ditch effort to keep Quinn happy. Unfortunately for the Canucks, he has limited head coaching experience, is more defensive minded on a team that needs offense, and Malhotra is now free to go anywhere else. In any case, the toothpaste is out of the tube, so a conservative "keep our captain happy" hire looks primed to blow up in their face. But that's the Canucks for you.

It's funny how many of the major offer sheets have involved St. Louis going back to the 1990's. Mike Keenan allegedly wanted to sign Martin Brodeur to an offer sheet in the 1995 offseason but apparently the NHL/NHLPA ruled that St. Louis couldn't because they had reacquired their picks? They must have changed the rules at some point.

If the rumor is that Quinn had a big say in the Foote hire then we might have to wait a little longer for him in NJ. That being said, I don't know why Quinn would want him. Completely different players, maybe he wanted a defense man so he'd have more leash with his play?

They're the one franchise I actually give credit to with offer sheets, they have made the ballsiest moves with regards to RFA's in league history. Some have worked, some have blown up in their face but they still use it to try to get better lol

For my futile mock draft, I keep wondering if a Trevor Zegras to Vancouver for pick #15 type trade would make sense. Anaheim nearly dealt Zegras at last year's draft (#21 and Logan Mailloux allegedly, with maybe a 2nd coming from Anaheim). Just seems like Zegras needs a change of scenery. Zegras is also a Hughes family friend and they seemingly all hang out at some point during the offseason.

"A little" being the operative phrase. If it's as uninspired of a hire as I think it will be, it won't buy them much time, and the price for us trading for Quinn becomes more palatable.
