Around the NHL 2025 playoff edition

I hope the bands that are associated with them (Offspring, Pennywise) stop being affiliated with them after this.

I’m not sure if Pennywise has any affiliation with them other than goal song, but I saw they did “Offspring night” a couple of years ago. If the band members actually show up and do business with them anymore then they’re shit heads too.

Just for the excuse, the Offspring (TIL now former) bass player's brother was one of my physics professors in college. We played in the same on campus hockey league but didn't overlap.

Quenneville betrayed his professional resposibility as a coach. He shouldn't be back in the league again. He's a horrible role model for other hockey coaches at all levels.
Players don't really have a responsibility built into their job, its a bit different. Thats why you see players sticking around among the leagues with legal probems.

I'm not surprised he's back. Sports team owners are usually of low moral and ethical standards and what Quenneville did is normal every day business in their mind. All it takes is 1 guy out of 30 to think that way and bring him in.
It's the nature of business in the US. Arguably if you can improve the bottom line in any legal fashion you have an obligation to do so in a big enough business. Morality is irrelevant unless it improves the bottom line. Corporations are ultimately soulless money machines only. It's the very rare large business that differs from this and on some level they do so at their peril.

I don't think its a business decision unless they had a problem drawing in coaches or were able to low ball Quenneville in salary. He's not that much better, if at all, than the next best available guy.

Most of the owners got enough money to own teams by crushing skulls and leaving victims. They probably don't see any problem with Quenneville at all since he did exactly what most of the owners would do anyways. I doubt the scandal was even considered when he was hired.

It’s an opinion but the conventional wisdom is that he’s a good coach

Tocchet, Laviolette, and Woodcroft are still available. Sullivan was free, although I don't think he considered any team other than the Rangers.
There's still a chance someone gets fired from the first round losers as well.

Is Quenneville really that much better than all of these guys that you would overlook the scandal and his involvement in it?

Quenneville is seen as "a winner" by all the same "hockey men" who keep getting GM positions. Nothing is going to change until those people are no longer running teams or there is enough blowback on one of these hirings to make them stop doing it.

He's not? Coaching's never been the issue with him, he was a consistent winner and fringe contender with a decent Blues team, won three Cups with the Blackhawks and helped lay the groundwork for the current Panthers that everyone wanted to attribute to Andrew Brunette since he wound up coaching the majority of the season

And the next best available guy is who, maybe Torts (or Sullivan for five minutes) and we know his issues lol

The Ducks have always been a joke, little brother franchise to me. Always second to the Kings.

I know you can say we’ve been that to the Rangers, but I don’t care.
Dexter Holland is a good person (uses his private jet to fly medical missions, contributed research to the COVID vaccine, kicked out their anti-vaxx drummer (lol you don't know more than a literal Ph.D, get wrecked)) so I should hope he does the right thing here. Then again, he hasn't made a decent album in more than 25 years and still plays, so maybe his judgment isn't 100%?

On top of being an abhorrent moral hire, Quenneville hasn't even been in the league for a few years, and hasn't done anything in the playoffs for longer than that.

I was initially on the drummer’s side. He couldn’t get it for medical reasons.

But now that’s sent him so far down the hole and he’s in some super group with worthless Dickbag Barrett (the Bosstones never meant a thing to me, so I don’t care) and some Smash Mouth guy. And they now play a bunch of uhhh (trying to say it non-political terms) rallies that are at the very least adjacent to some of those other kinds of rallies. And Dicky (who was at one time a coke head and fed coke to underage fans) cares more about people being fat and eating bad foods then more important things, because he has his head so far up John’s nephew’s ass he can taste what he ate for breakfast.

Former Offspring drummer also goes on a certain podcast and collaborates musically with a certain person. So while I sympathized with that guy at first, he’s probably too far gone now.

And why would I wanna listen to a band with members of the Bosstones, Smash Mouth (like, really?) and shitty era Offspring guys? I would rather listen to 70s disco.

But, back to the original point, hopefully they cut ties, at least during the Quenneville era.

And yes, I would probably agree that haven’t put out a good entire album in 30 years and it’s probably been 25 years since they put out an album with multiple good songs. I heard some newer song from them several years ago and it was……not too different from what many 60 year old punks who veered off are now playing…..

true players should def not defend their teammate being sexually abused and instead should openly mock it and then never mention it until it comes out years later

One of the more amusing things I keep hearing about Quenneville is that the “Ducks did a thorough background check” or something like that lol. And they’ve come to the conclusion that everything is alright or whatever.

For what? To make sure that he may not have been involved in something else in the last 15 years since? That was nothing but some kind of BS defense and PR speak to justify the hiring lol.

I’ve said for a while that they shouldn’t need to give these guys a lifetime ban. Teams should just refuse to hire them.

But teams don’t refuse to hire them. So the only way they’re out is by way of lifetime ban.

I saw the background check they did. Looks to me like they threw Quenneville up on a lift and checked the suspension and frame. I don’t think they checked his compression though and he’s got at least one screw loose.

I like how they deleted Lou’s info and photos from the Isles site then restored them after the GM search isn’t going so well.

He’ll probably stick around in some capacity.

Gotta give Lou credit, he's a feisty, tough old SOB.
