Around the NHL 2025 playoff edition

As much as it would be better for us for the Isles to stay mediocre for a long time, that fanbase kind of deserves something to make the next few season watchable. Does karma favor Lou not tanking?

I hope Pittsburgh doesn't get it even though there's no generational superstar. Of course I also hope Philly doesn't get it.

They don't deserve shit. Same mouth breathing annoying morons in blue as the other blue team they hate so much. Hope whoever they pick is a major bust.

This feels like a post-draft lottery theory made to fit what happened.

It’s not hard to make up a flimsy theory with zero proof other than the win itself.

I mean I really couldn't care less if the league handed out some favors over the years via lottery balls, the likelihood it happens every year? I doubt it. Once in a while? Meh, whatever, don't care lol. There's far worse going on in sports like what happened with the Hawks that 2010 year for example.

If the draft lottery was actually rigged, McDavid would not be an Oiler, Jack would be a Ranger, and Nico would probably be a Flyer or somewhere else.

Thing is the McDavid year, the best team to win the lottery heading into the last number was the Leafs. Then obviously you mention those teams but they were the runner ups to those years. If the lottery is rigged, it would be kinda funny but I think as Devils fans we probably shouldn't care at this point even if it was which was my original point.

That being said, if McKenna goes to Pittsburgh next year, can you blame people for believing it? Lmao

Maybe it’s because it’s late but I can’t figure out what you’re saying here:

“Thing is the McDavid year, the best team to win the lottery heading into the last number was the Leafs.”

The Leafs had the best chance to land him going into the last number with the first 3 numbers that came up. There was a high chance and a legit timeline where McDavid ends up a Leaf, lol.

If they did it like today with the numbers live, everyone would've been screaming rigged before the last number.

I just saw how they did the draft, I fell asleep after work today for a nap, I love it this new way of doing the lottery. People will have tinfoil theories still, like what I did earlier, but it's the best way to be transparent. I wouldn't be surprised if other leagues adapt it as well mainly the NBA

I can’t bring myself to really care about the Islanders in general because they’ve been mostly irrelevant and/or terrible for most of my hockey fan life. I’m sure any drop of success will bring back the bad old days of the four-peat immediately to the forefront, though.

Tinfoil crowd can always make up conspiracy theories after the fact. I was told repeatedly by one poster that I was an idiot if I didn't know that this lottery was rigged for Pittsburgh because.......they won the Crosby lottery almost 20 years ago? I'm sure he'll pivot now and convince himself that next year's will be rigged for Pittsburgh.

Another main board poster was certain Boston would win it because......it's rigged for big market Original Six clubs except for all those other years when they didn't win?

'Logic' like that always reminds me why we're inundated with gambling ads now.

I don't care about the Islanders as a team, I just can't stand their fans.

They rigged it for the Isles for the all star game cancellation and for the new Utah owner as a thank you for bailing out the Coyotes and keeping franchise values high. Anything to keep a Canadian team from winning.

I don't have much exposure to them but I have to imagine they're terrible. My cousin had frat brothers who were Islanders fans and he learned to dislike the fanbase.

I think the Islanders fanbase has been radicalized by years of exposure to the Rangers fanbase. By and large Islanders fans are typical suburban folks who have plenty going on and would not be awful were they not living among and next to one of the worst fan bases in all of pro sports.

Sounds familiar.

Tavares 2.0. Seems like a similar situation, maybe more past their prime veteran support. They have a very thin pool and Horvat, Pulock, Pelech, Sorokin, Engvall, Duclair, etc. are almost all signed until the end of 2030 or '31 and all getting worse.

This would be the time to see if they can deal Barzal somewhere. They'll likely pick top 5-10 for a while, but I don't think they'll be able to do what the Sharks have done.

Tavares was at least a pretty much guaranteed star player. I don't think we can say the same for whoever goes #1 overall this year.

The problem is that I don't think the Islanders will be picking top 5 all that often, at least not for the next 2 seasons. They have a lot of average or above-average players. They just have zero depth (because the farm system is completely bare), and no top-liners. It's a very familiar situation.
