Around the NHL 2025 playoff edition

Yzerman will just sign 1-2 more bad UFA contracts on July 1st to make up for that…..

He does that every year, so maybe he does 3 this year.

How did anything he say (even if dumb for someone in his position) even skirt with tampering? What could he say about his own player possibly not wanting to play on his team be considered tampering in anyway?

I get he was half joking and treading water at the end realizing he over shared, but still, not sure if there is any even remote connection to tampering.

longer the canucks wait the less of a return they get for quinn. at some point you just wait out the clock and sign him for free ufa. devils though have to make sure they arent trending down or treading water

I’m no tampering expert, but the part where he mentions bringing his brothers to Vancouver is pretty sketch.

Probably but should we really be the ones to ding him on tampering charges? He might retaliate by keeping him as long as possible then trading him to the Rangers or Carolina for peanuts just to annoy us if he can’t resign him lol

Not like we don’t still have the upper hand since two > one

That makes sense, I guess I took that comment more of, "He wants to play with his brothers, and thats out of my control unless I do the impossible and get his brothers here, which I can't do," basically reiterating that if he wants to play with his brothers bad enough, he's walking.

Rags will be too busy trying to set up for McDavid and the Canes are never trading for a rental piece again of high quality after what happened with Rantanen and Guentzel

I find it incredibly bleak that we keep seeing an already small pool of head coaches get recycled by and even smaller pool of recycled GM’s.

The job of a coach is different from the other sports. In football the head coach is at the top of the organization chart, plus teams only play 17 games a year. That buys time. Basketball is more about managing relationships with the best players, which drive results. Baseball the field manager basically doesn’t exist anymore, the manager does what the front office tells them to do.

The coach’s job in the NHL is to manage the short term. To drive results for a individual games and for a season, while the GM oversees roster construction for a multi season window and a President of Hockey Ops oversees big picture stuff from building scouting staffs, minor leagues ect. So it isn’t surprise that coaches in the NHL have shorter tenures. And given there job is to manage short term it isn’t surprising to see more of a carousel of coaches being fired and rehired. The ones being rehired are mostly guys who have shown they can get short term success (John Hynes excepted).
