Around the NHL 2025-2026

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
The last 5 seasons he’s played 374 games and scored 338 points. That’s a .903 ppg pace.

If you want to go to The Cheesecake Factory, and order your favorite piece of cheesecake, I’ll buy it while you jump up and down on the table, since Tkachuk is barely under a complete ppg player 1:1.

Congratulations on your morale victory. I stand down and feel completely humbled by what can only be described as a complete and total mental collapse on my part.

I take back what I previously stated.

Florida must be a complete disaster of a franchise for getting a .903 ppg player instead of using their assets for a true 1:1 ppg player.

How completely ridiculous does their GM feel now?
I still think Brady is a poor use of assets when they have a glaring hole at goalie currently.

You would rather trade 3 first round picks for a goalie?
I'd rather shoot my shot for acquiring Hellebuyck or Igor while still acquiring a top 9 skater, yes. They have no goalie under contract currently.

What do 5 skaters mean on the ice when there's no one stopping the puck? Ask Edmonton how that turned out for them.

Edmonton during the McCryer days has been a lot more top heavy with superstars than a complete forward or D roster, let alone the goalie.

Florida will figure out a goalie I’m sure

I trust Zito to address goaltending, but the room for improvement and impact he could have made for acquiring a top end starter is much more substantial there than is acquiring Brady for 2 years.

And no, I would not have wanted the Blues to acquire Brady as he is not a 1 or 2 C.

They are already a very good team so I’m sure their GM is feeling fine, but Brady does not make them a lot better and he certainly didn’t get him on some amazing deal. You could argue he overpaid for a player that was demanding to be traded to him anyways.

and you try to paint me as the one throwing a fit after writing that overdramatic crap.

I see it similarly. Even if Brady would’ve been open to coming to the Blues, I wouldn’t have remotely been interested in matching or beating the price Florida played.

And I reluctantly agree Zito will probably find a solid goalie solution too. Part of me wants to say “look at Edmonton” or “look at the 2000s Blues” as examples of teams that had it all except a competent goalie…except Florida has something those teams didn’t/don’t - the benefit of seemingly almost every player in the league wanting to play there. That solves a lot of problems for GMs..

And Zito has around $7M of cap space to work with currently:
https://puckpedia.com/team/florida-panthers

That said, he needs more than 1 goalie. With that $7M, he needs to fill both goalie spots and add a 7th d-man. And another depth forward unless he wants to just go with 13 forwards and a 22-man roster instead of the usual 23. So maybe he’ll trade another mid forward to clear some cap and then fill the depth spots with guys making at or near league minimum so he can go get a decent starting goalie.

I’ll be interested to see what he’s able to pull off…but also sort of hoping he fails as that team looks like an absolute juggernaut if they can find a competent goalie.

Florida should be able to trade for a good enough goalie with their 40th and 48th overall picks. They may nuke their future, but they will be the heavy favorites for the next 2 seasons, and then we'll re-evaluate from there. That roster is just disgusting.

The Senators are hoping to flip the picks from the Brady Tkachuk trade into a top-six forward. Everyone is curious to see what they do, including their own players. Tkachuk's trade shouldn't spark a mass exodus as long as the Senators remain in position to compete. It appears to be status quo for Ottawa's other American-born star, Jake Sanderson. I wouldn't be surprised to see Sanderson or Tim Stutzle being named the next captain.

trade them kyrou for pick and then package #11 and #15 picks for #2 pick

Your favorite player reportedly will not waive to go to Ottawa according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen.

What you should be rooting for is for Kyrou to get dealt to Dallas as Jason Robertson lite, if Robertson moves on. Then you can cheer against Kyrou 3-4 times each year while he scores 40 goals a season for another team.

It is very interesting to see the reactions to the Nemec trade on this board. Even if Nemec lands at a Sergachev level, that's still far more valuable then what you can usually hope for in a early to late 20's pick. Vegas and Colorado are likely 2nd round playoff squads over the next two years - so let's call that 25 and 27. Then you have 35 from this year's draft - that seems like not a lot to give up for a guy with legit top pair potential still - pretty much every young D has to take their lumps before they turn into something valuable.

35 in 2026, 27 in 2027, and 25 in 2028 - that's a lot of picks, but not a lot of value. The chance of getting a true top 6/top 4 player out of that range is like 5% or less. I'd take that chance all day on a guy like Nemec. NJ has jacked up his development since day 1.

I'm fine with Calgary taking that risk on him, they are giving up late 1sts, so no where near as much risk. I'm more than fine that we didn't make the trade because I see too many issues with Nemec.

At the same time, if we made the same trade for Broberg, people would've called us crazy at the time, but that would've been a homerun of a deal. When making these types of deals, it's very much a boom or bust type of thing. If you are using picks you acquired in other deals, it's much easier to swallow if it doesn't work.

The weird part for me is that they kind of already "have Nemec at home" in Parekh. Realistically only one of them is going to be QB'ing your PP1. Maybe you like having some redundancy there, but it seems like a lot to give up for your PPQB2. In a bubble I don't mind the deal; I think Nemec can be a real good player in this league, and Calgary needed more defensemen. It's just... that's the archetype you cashed in for?

Tidy bit of GM work from Calgary front office, parlaying picks they acquired for Kadri, Andersson and Weegar and flipping them into a former 2nd overall.

Would welcome such a move from the Blues using picks #15 and #29 for a player closer to the NHL over standing pat.

Yeah, that's why my interest in Nemec was always there, but somewhat limited. I don't think I would've wanted a dcore of Jiricek, Mailloux, and Nemec on the right.

There were a lot of people speculating that if San Jose had Reid and Stenberg in the same tier that they should take Reid. I guess we’ll see but seems to indicate Stenberg.
