Around the NHL 2024 25

After watching a bunch of other games recently, its amazing how much better the Jets are at overtime than everyone else. I swear they are the only team that looks like they have a plan.
I found myself thinking that during 4 nations during the Canada Sweden OT lol. Get Scheif KC & Jmo out there and it would have been over for the Swedes 5 minutes earlier

No, not even close. These dives to the bottom take a decade.

For normal teams they do. For big market teams they can be a quick dip if done even just a little right. If they draft well for even 3 seasons and hit on some guys, supplement through FA and maybe sign a decent NCAA player or two they can quickly turn things around. Leafs turned things around quick after going scorched earth, NYR seemed to be on the right path, Habs look to be turning the corner.

Chicago has some really interesting young talent and some more in the pipeline. What they absolutely need to do this offseason is be aggressive and supplement their roster with some free agents. Bedard needs serious help, their backend needs some vets to help guide the young guys along. They also have two 1sts/two 2nds this draft and two 1sts/three 2nds next year. Lots of draft capital to make some moves. If they are smart this offseason they can be turning the corner as early as next year and ready to compete for playoffs by the season after.

Ya, maybe not. We've certainly seen plenty of false starts with teams like EDM and buffalo. Actually, I think the whole "ground up rebuild model" might be dead.

It's always tougher for small and middle market teams to do a scorched earth. Not only do you need to draft well but also build a culture. You generally aren't going to be a major player on the free agent market no matter how much potential your young guys have. It's just tougher.

Teams like NYR, Toronto, Montreal, Chicago, LA, Boston can attract FA's, they can keep their drafted players easier, they can attract NCAA FA's. They have all the tools at their disposal to go scorched earth and come out the other side quickly.

Seems like Calgary can make things interesting down the stretch. Blues/Wild both one game left and they play tonight. Calgary 2 games left and they also play tonight.

Blues vs Utah
Wild vs Ducks
Flames vs Knights

Would be crazy if after the Blues go on that crazy run, Flames just leapfrog them last 2 games of the season.

I think you underestimate how long it takes players to be good all around NHLers. The only young players playing well this year are Bedard (pretty bad defensively still) and Vlasic. They hope Nazar can make a big jump next year but for as good as his hands and speed are there is a lot to be desired from an all around game. Then everyone else is 3 or 4 years away just to be in the NHL being good in the NHL is another story. Perfetti is 22 and is still working on consistency.

Their oldest good prospects are 20? Let's see how it goes when they get to be 23 or 24. By the time the Hawks are good again most of thatcurrent roster isn't even there

It could happen, Calgary is in the groove at the moment. Good goaltending too.
Both of Johnny Gaudreau's former teams are still alive but hanging on by a thread. If either or both make it would be remarkable.

If the Flames make it I think Wolf should win the Calder, there is nobody that carries their team more than him.

I am pulling for the Ducks tonight. They can beat anybody. And the Wild can lose to anyone.
