Around the NHL 2024 25

When you own the damn team, it's obviously the team you try to market the most. Will be interesting to see how TSN which is the most Toronto centric market turns when Rogers takes over full control next year. Maybe they will turn to their #2, the Habs, the team they make documentaries about.

Jets are always going to be under the radar. I think it's a good position to be. Less pressure for sure.

I think even if the team was owned by someone else it would be a similar story. It's no secret that there are more Leafs fans worldwide then any other team. They've been around since the start, play in the biggest hockey market on the planet and so they drive the most clicks and in the modern world clicks are revenue. If Auston Matthews passes gas and winces it's going to make front page news over a small market team breaking records because fans of the Leafs are what drives the revenue and they care about how gassy Matthews may or may not be far more than they care about anything outside of their market.

I agree though, we are a still a fishbowl market despite being one of the smaller ones but at least gassy Matthews can take the heat off of us every once and awhile.

For a while bene monitoring the standings and only looking at Washington and Dallas.

But i noticed the points differential of the 8th seed in the Central and 1st team is doubled 😳😱

Man Washington and Winnipeg been toe to toe for overall points leader for months now…

They have 1 more game left right? And Ovie will also be striking distance of the goals record.

Jets seems to be always on the other end of this record..

that is a must see game!!!!

But not jumping ahead. Few more games before that game..

GO JETS Go

wanted to post some props to Washington's apparently(?) rookie GM this past year, but apparently he's been on the staff since 2008 and AGM the last several years.

80 pts - missed POs 2 years ago
91 pts last year
neck and neck with the Jets this year.

out (hope i tallied this up correctly)
Kuemper
2025 2nd
2024 3rd
2025 3rd
2026 3rd
Jensen

Logan Thompson

previous actual GM getting Protas at 5 years x 3.4M was pretty tremendous value and Sandin 5 years x 4.6M. McMichael although v short term 2 x 2.1m. i don't follow prospects enough to have a qualified opinion, but apparently their pool is pretty solid to? not something i associated with the Capitals

Whatever people may feel about Tom Wilson he just scored his 30th goal of the season
I think he's an excellent hockey player that's missing a few critical synapses. He doesn't need to do the crap he does to succeed. Sadly the league doesn't care about it's players so his type of shenanigans will be ongoing for the foreseeable future.

Gassy Matt. Good job with the new nickname.

He's got all the tools to be a special kind of player, but yeah, he's clearly got some sort of mental dysfunction. Wouldn't want him on the Jets.

I must say the Colorado GDT is quite entertaining after the Col / Tor game last night.

And contrarily to what every fan of Colorado wants today .... there is NO requirement ( ie: rule ) for the ref to blow the whistle when they interfere with the play and hand Toronto the winning goal.

The best part was if the ref was trying to chase down the puck and dive in front of it, he couldn’t have done any better.

One of the blocks of the year in the NHL for sure!

The league worked with SAP to develop an app for Apple iPads that streamlines Central Registry data, cap and long-term injury status and no-trade and no-move clauses and lays it all out for general managers and league executives to access at their fingertips for the first time.

In the aftermath of the Washington Capitals buying and shuttering the popular CapFriendly site to make that their proprietary in-house data, places like PuckPedia and CapWages have emerged to fill the void for fans who at one point used CapGeek to look up or reimagine rosters. This app is for teams and teams only and expected to eventually be available on iPhone, but there is no plan to offer a version for the general public.

This should have been a thing for teams like 10 years ago. I also don't see why it shouldn't be made public but that's a league decision, I suppose. A public interface where fans can research and interact with team/contract data would be great and drive fan engagement for a segment of NHL fans that are interested in the business/team building side of the game.

Don't tell the 4th (5th?) most popular North American spectator sport how to run their business! :sarcasm:

Bettman thinks all the info like salaries etc. are to be guarded like nuclear launch codes. Until the NHL lets the public have this kind of info and more importantly injury info, the majority of North America will never take the league seriously.

But, more than salaries, IMO the NHL doesn't want the public to know that the teams that drive the NHL gate revenue the most ( the Canadian teams ) are the teams that make up most of the no-trade and no-move clauses.
