Around the NHL 2024/25

Nah he wouldn’t be a macho dumb hockey player if he didn’t man up here and remain silent. If you want to be part of the players they seem to have a weird code on this topic.
That’s why I tune out the concussion issues.
Until the players take it seriously why should the league.
Every player knows it was a deliberate dirty act.
You get what you give.

Necas with 2 g, 1 a, Colorado dusts Flames. The Rantanen trade doesn't look bad for the Avs. Necas is pacing for 90+ this year, he looks like Hejduk playing with Sakic.
Id still prefer him to Rantanen - him with Mak and rosy cheeks were such a load to handle and imo the Avs really fed off their shifts.

Check out Laine's last five games. Especially that ice time. Yikes.

Like, averaging less than a shot a goal per game? What is he even out there for?

I haven't watched him a lot but in the games I've seen he's such a f***ing low effort liability out there. It's almost like the Habs are shorthanded out there when he's on the ice.

Sorry, I meant I'm happier with Necas on the Avs than Rantanen.
Happier in the sense that the Avs will do worse (Schadenfreude version)?

or

Happier that with Necas the Avs are better as a team (true joy version)?

Either is fine with me, not that anyone asked.

Hockey content: Did anyone notice how calm Ehlers was during Sawyer's interview? He just scored a goal, put in a mighty shift, comes off the ice, and isn't sweating. Looks like he's ready to give a seminar on recipes for Brunsviger.

It's those short shifts. Fella's so fresh and well rested he could pop into another team's game, play another dozen 25s-long Ehlersschiften, and still have time to read a little Kierkegaard in bed.

I think Necas is going to be noticed now on that top line with Mac. That's a great skating line, with Lehkonen too. He maybe did not get that attention on a 2nd line in Carolina.

Bringing Rantanen in has just dropped Svetchnikov to the 2nd line but there's something off about Carolina since the trade.

If Canes don't sign Rantanen because their defense/goaltending lets them down, this is going to be a significant trade win for the Avs.

I caught the Plays of the Week just before the Tampa-Detroit game this afternoon and, like, 3 of them were absolutely stupid saves against Carolina. They're just a bit snakebitten. Rantanen could've had a couple here the other night. I think they'll come around.

Also on PotW, Kyle Connor's split the defense/backhander goal vs. Calgary was number 8. And some save that didn't even require a goalie was 2nd or 3rd. Literally, if the net had been empty, the shot would've sailed harmlessly across the crease - but there was a goalie there and he grabbed the puck. Bravo! :shakehead

Emily Kaplan reported during the Boston/VGK game that Pietrangelo wont play for Canada during the four nations because Vegas signs his pay checks. If true that's his right but don't bitch when Canada doesn't ask you to play in the Winter Olympics.
I’m sure Bettman loves all these star players opting out of his little marketing tourney.

Vegas gets special privileges, though, so it’s fine.

This 4 nations thing is obviously a test and the players are 50-50 partners in the money so let’s see how it goes. For the most part I think most players want to compete in it but time will tell. I have heard the argument that this is not legit since Russia isn’t there and I guess that will hold true for the Olympics too then since I doubt they will be there.

I doubt the Vegas owner will want his players in the Oly’s either. I don’t think any owner wants his star players in that tournament due to risk of injury.

Our local Habs forum here said his ice time is because he's now on a line with Armia and Evans. If that's not a concession of a failed experiment, I mean, my god..

First rule of Lainiacs fandom (fight club) is “it’s not Laine’s fault”. Most of his Finnish delusional brigade have vanished now that he is doing his slump thing. MLS is trying to figure out how to hide the liability at 5v5.

And Laine trying his very bestest to play himself right out of the NHL!

Habs must be shooting themselves that they got this guy!

Low risk picking him up as a cap dump for his salary contained over two seasons and getting a 2nd round pick as well. They were probably hoping for Monahan part 2 where they can get paid on both ends of the deal. Montreal got a conditional 1st round pick for taking Sean off Calgary’s hands then a season and a half later they trade Monahan to the Jets for a 1st round pick and conditional 3rd round pick

2 x 1st round picks + a 3rd and he played well in Montreal.

Laine will need to rehab his knee this off season and if things come together a bit more next season he “might” carry value as a rental piece at the deadline but that’s a long way away right now.
