Really ought to start bringing in some older players with CTE to show the young guys what they're really fighting for. As a teenager or 20-something you think you're indestructible and that thought process is normal. Extremely shortsighted, but normal. Let them see their what their future is going to be after a few too many knocks to the head.

I also don't think the NHLPA will win a lawsuit if they ever bring one forward. Lawyers and judges being what they are, never say never, but I would think all you'd need to do is bring forth evidence of the NHLPA condoning these actions repeatedly through appeals to say 'nah, you guys have condoned the violence by supporting the offenders, you reap what you sow'.
Yup - I see direct lawsuits, for instance, if the PA manages to get Hartman's suspension reduced and then another player gets a brain injury from him, etc.

Bring it on. These groups should be protecting players.

It's so bizarre in a way

Let's say instead of a hockey players union, we were talking about electricians. If one electrician acted in a negligent manner (or worse, purposefully) on a job site and the actions injured a co-worker.... what would the IBEW do?

Honestly if Hartman was a Jet i would want him traded , it would be embarrassing to have him being a Winnipeg Jet .
I feel so fortunate we haven't really had a player like this. Sure, we've had Peluso, and Byfuglien - who both had propensity for violence, but I never felt either of those guys had intent to injure.

We've never had a pure rat and I'm thankful for that

Brandon Lemieux, but we got him on the first train outta town the instant someone was willing to spring for the ticket.

Peluso was definitely operating honorably within the Code. Buff took a few cheap shots...but as Russo would say, that's the other guy's fault for making Buff mad!

Strong night for the Central.

Wild hold off Carolina 2-1. Hurricanes on a 3 game losing streak.

Necas with 2 g, 1 a, Colorado dusts Flames. The Rantanen trade doesn't look bad for the Avs. Necas is pacing for 90+ this year, he looks like Hejduk playing with Sakic.

Utah beats Columbus on a highlight reel goalie assist on Dylan Guenther's OT GWG.

Canucks win on a penalty shot, puts them into the 8 seed. Looks like a different team without Miller. Demko is making some big saves in the absence of Quinn Hughes.

Yep, he might have been our Hartman -- had he sucked less and had the fans and WPG sportswriters equivalent of Michael Russo (is there such a thing?) embraced him fervently as a Cause Celebre.

Fortunately, BL was mostly terrible, and widely derided as a reckless headhunter who might injure a linemate as easily as an opponent.

Hartman does not seem to be beloved by most MinneFans (I actually have a colleague here who is one by default) and I suspect his teammates aren't lining up to defend this latest act of common assault. Too crap to be a top-liner and too violent to be gudvet grit.

I blame Perfetti.

That's a good point you made. Hartman isn't anything like, say, Tom Wilson; a man who, for all his sociopathy, can at least play the game and plays very well for long stretches.

I don't know who the WPG sports writer equivalent to Russo would be, but guaranteed they'd be drunk at the time.

Check out Laine's last five games. Especially that ice time. Yikes.

Like, averaging less than a shot a goal per game? What is he even out there for?

All the hype in Montreal but I think the luster will wear off.

He's one more year from UFA after this one. The way he talks about Barkov and the way Maurice brought out his best still expect him in Florida at some point. Under the radar. Montreal fans will just pivot to Demidov now. Defense and goaltending are still below NHL median.
