Around the NHL 2024/25

Ya i can't see players going all out for this. Do you want to lift the 4 Nations cup , if they have 1 or lift the Stanley cup ?

I don't disagree. I don't feel any great interest. But if it was an IIHF sanctioned best on best, a World Cup, or the Olympics, we would be pretty excited about it. What's the difference?

People are saying it’s not best on best because Russia is not there so I assume the Olympics are also not going to be best on best for the same reason if Russia isn’t there.

I can’t wait for fans to move the goal posts.

For me, it’s the inclusion of the other smaller countries. It’s exciting when you get upsets.
That's the part I hate and why I think the Olympics is a waste of time. Half the games are pointless.

In Sochi Canada played

Norway
Austria
Finland
Latvia
US
Sweden

I’m really unsure on the Stone hit. On the one hand the optics suck but on the other hand it happened so fast, the stick did appear to trip him, and it’s rare you see a player lead with his head (to knee) to intend to injure. Pretty easy to pick up a concussion or a serious neck injury on that play.

Really unfortunate and I hope Heiskanen isn’t too badly injured.

Brandon Saad on waivers. 6'1 215lbs, playoff experience. 32 years old. Consistent 20+ goal scorers. He's a solid 3rd or 4th line depth piece with upside.
Not sure if he's injured or a what he's like off the ice.

Had to go find this on the main board. The first clip made it look like a football chop block. But the other angle shows the trip that makes it forgivable.

Are Russians not at the Olympics, just not under the Russian flag? They can be team No-name. Or is the 4 Nations some flag waving rah-rah event with NHL officiating making sure of a Canada vs. USA final?

That’s Saad to see.
He’s cooked and I don’t think any team wants his 4.5 million contract for next season

Dont think we can afford the additional year of his contract though...

Hard to say. Could be circumstantial and be gets 20 this year on the right team. 20+ next year, there are definitely worse contracts out there. But ya, it depends on Chevy's plan.

If Saad had a good finish and playoff run. He's be easy to move or live with. He's like a bigger faster Perfetti that can score.

I bet a team like Washington picks him up. They've been rehabbing players quite successfully

Russia remains a pariah as long as they keep disrupting world peace.

The Russian people are paying an awful price for one man's ego trip. Being excluded from international hockey is a very small part of that price.

Pretty sure the trip had at least some effect on that incident. Stone was leaning into a hit of some kind and the trip was enough to throw him off balance. Looks terrible but I doubt he intended what happened.

Also hope Heiskanen isn't too badly hurt.

He's been declining for a couple of years. Blues tried to move him but there were no takers. They are hoping someone grabs him now. I wouldn't touch him myself.

Last Olys they competed as something like Olympic Athletes from Russia. I think there was a lot of pushback against that. Doubt the IOC does it again. I certainly hope not.
