He's a less skilled, meathead StanleyRempe doesn't play hockey at the NHL level particularly well, get's thrown out of games, rarely wins a fight. I guess injuring other players is the only reason why the Rangers put him in the lineup.
What should really happen with suspensions is the team takes a salary cap hit. That would start cleaning up the Rempe type bullshit real quick.
I was thinking that the team who suffered the offense should get to pick which player on the offending team has to serve the suspensionWhat should really happen with suspensions is the team takes a salary cap hit. That would start cleaning up the Rempe type bullshit real quick.
I think that is probably a step too far as you would be directly interfering with uninvolved players livelihoods. But lets say there was some formula where players suspended in a season, their suspended salary would be deducted from next season's salary cap and donated to player safety issues the following season.I was thinking that the team who suffered the offense should get to pick which player on the offending team has to serve the suspension
All of a sudden there'd be pressure from within your own dressing room to stop doing stupid shit. Leadership groups would be going to coaches to ask them not to play borderline NHLers like Rempe. His "upside" isn't worth the risk
I like that idea, but it would have more teeth if it were a fixed minimum cost to the team. eg, $100,000 per game. Rempe's loss of salary for 8 games will be ~80,000, a hit to him personally, but next to nothing if applied to the cap. $800,000, while only 1% of the cap, would sting.I think that is probably a step too far as you would be directly interfering with uninvolved players livelihoods. The Ducks remind me of the Oilers during their Rebuild 1.0 with Hall, Eberle, RNH, Yakupov, etc...ducks come back from 4-1 to beat the utahs in a shootout
