Get Miller for that price? Sure. But then dump Horvat? No.

But now, when hindsight kicks in, why was he available at that price? Why had NYR been so willing to trade him? And now he has to be moved from Vancouver because of team conflict. Maybe Pettersson is the problem, I can't know for certain, not being in that room. One of them needs to go and soon. I would keep Pettersson.
Why was he available at that price, is the same reason Kov was available for free than a 4th. Players often underrated

“He is struggling. He is caught in between. It seems like every time he is on the ice, something bad happens,” Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet...( re: Miller )

You know things aren't good when your coach has this to say about your play.

Miller was a highly rated prospect, drafted 15th OA. He had played 341 gms with NYR. In his last season there he played 63 gms and scored 40 pts. He scored 20+ G 3 consecutive seasons. He had demonstrated his ability. TBL kept him for 1 season in which he scored 47 pts, and then they moved him.

Not a Kovy comparison. There can be many factors affecting a team's decision to trade a player, cap issues for example. But TBL went on to win the SC the next 2 seasons after trading Miller. None of the pieces they got for him played for them those 2 years. So they were down a top 9 F but got better. Maybe not connected at all. Make of that what you will. Like I said earlier, just my suspicion. But I don't like the look of the record.
