Fascinating.I believe it was part of the agreement when Smith bought the team that they get to treat it as a new franchise.

Canadien fans should be deported back to their board. They regularly derail threads on other boards over some ego trip they haveOn another note, IDK if I can stand another 30 threads on the main board about Demidov after going through it with Hutson this season...
I wanted Demidov so bad at the draft and now all I want is for him to bust just because I don't want to hear Canadien fans.
I love Leo and prefer him, but it's plays like this that really shock me that Verbeek took him over Fantilli. Just seems like the definition of a Verbeek guy.
I remember reading something where Verbeek said " was Leo my choice initially? No, I wouldn't say that. That was a really impressive sequence for Fantilli.
While I guess I’m not terribly surprised we picked Leo (and I think they made the right choice actually) what kind of surprised me is how Verbeek pretty much knew who he wanted very early on. I think Alexis or somebody asked him right after the Lotto if he knew who he wanted and he responded affirmatively.” It didn’t sound like it was really up for debate; at least not intensely.

That's the same article I read. In the athletic the Day after Leo got drafted. My recollection is that Verbeek stated he had two players he was considering. He was initially leaning towards one player, Fantilli, but the scouts pushed him towards Carlsson. By mid-point of the season, his mind was made up. It was Carlsson, and he didn't look back.
kings-oilers first round matchup for the 4th year in a row
While I enjoyed the come back against the flames. Out of the 3 teams: wild, blues and flames. I want the flames and blues in.We genuinely may have scuppered the Flames' chances of making the playoffs. If they win this next game in hand, they're still losing on tiebreaks for St Louis.
Sweet satisfaction.
Honestly for the last 7 years' playoffs, I've cared about like...one of them (the Caps beating the Knights). While I enjoyed the come back against the flames. Out of the 3 teams: wild, blues and flames. I want the flames and blues in.

Yeah, that's why I want it.I want blues for cam (from the west)
13:32 into his 1st NHL game and Demidov has 1g 1a. This could be a decade long nightmare for Ducks fans.
Yeah both Demidov and Mitchkov went to 'BIG' market teams in the north east. Anaheim and Columbus passed on both of those but I think in Columbus case they should have rolled the dice on Demidov than on a guy who may have a short career in Lindstrom.I know Demidov isn't the same as Michkov's situation, but I'm not going to hold it against Verbeek for not taking a Russian that high. The risk was just too great for a small market West Coast team with the third overall pick. If Sennecke doesn't pan out while Yakemchuk or Parekh or one of those other guys does, then I'll be a bit frustrated.
I don't know how much more strongly I can disagree with a post. I'll just say that I disagree. The Ducks shocked everyone by taking Sennecke...hopefully he becomes a top line RW to justifiy the pick. But if he doesn't and Demidov does then the Ducks really really blew it. And the Russian factor was ALWAYS overblown. There was ZERO risk to taking Demidov other than Verbeek's unwillingness to build a team with any Russians as part of the core. You want a team to suck for perpetuity? Screw up top 5 picks. I hope Sennecke delivers.I know Demidov isn't the same as Michkov's situation, but I'm not going to hold it against Verbeek for not taking a Russian that high.
