So... Kakko to the Kraken, for Wo;; Borgen, a 3rd and a 6th

Absolutely god awful return, but I think this means teams think either he's problematic or he'll never be more than a 3rd liner, or else someone would have offered more, including Conroy.

Wasn’t Borgen decent in their inaugural season? Is he pretty well useless now? Like if they 100% wanted an NHL ready RD in the deal the best we could have done is Miromanov and I’m not sure that’s what they need

But if Borgen is trash now the point is moot anyway because we should have been able to beat that draft capital

My money is on problematic.

I'd be more disappointed if he was a centre.

Was Conroy sleeping? Or were we too busy planning the parade already?

Come on man. Calgary. That’s nothing. That’s absolutely nothing for a guy with potential.

That looks like a panic move. Rangers took the first offer that looked even remotely passable, and didn't bother to talk to other teams, because they wanted to get rid of Kakko asap.

I dunno, there have been rumors about them wanting to make a move for weeks now, and Kakko always made the most sense to move as he's not in their top 6 and in theory his potential would bring a return. But I think his comments may have cause teams to lose interest because they may view him as a problem, teams and most players don't like when a guy throws everyone else under the bus.

Yes, I think its related to the latter part you said. Rangers wanted to get something for him, before teams lose their interest even more.

Something about the recent comments he made must have rubbed teams the wrong way. Like ADA or Georgiev levels of wrong way.

I have no clue if these concerns are valid, but the brutal package for him might be a clue into this.

His Wiki says he has experience playing centre. If the attitude problem stuff is accurate, then I'm not as upset. That kind of thing can divide a room and cause a team to play lower than the sum of its parts.

Meh

What does Kakko do at an above average NHL level? I really don't see a single attribute that suggests he has much further upside than what he has shown. The one thing we absolutely don't need at the moment or in the future is another left shot middle six winger.

Save the assets and identify other pieces better suited for the organization. I also think Borgen holds more value than fans around here think he does even if he's having a real tough start to this season.

He's a UFA.
One of those guys that gets a 4-6th rounder at the deadline for teams looking to buy a depth guy.

In terms of Kakko.
I think you're betting on potential there more than anything. Good size, putting up reasonable points for a guy not playing any PP. At this stage in Calgary, you need as many darts you can get. Getting a dart that's 5 years further developed than a kid you pick with your third next year (when you have 4 picks in the first two rounds anyway) that could maybe find some chemistry here is just worth it. What if he suits playing Zary's wing well? Like what if there's chemistry there and all of a sudden you have a duo you could roll out on your second line for the next decade?

Dunno. That was a low risk cost on a good reward, with the position this club is in, it's weird they chose not to take it. It's not like we're chocked full of under 23 year olds who are ready to make the jump.

I watch a lot of Habs games because I live in Quebec but that kid that the panthers threw in in the Tkachuk deal that we then threw in in the Toffoli trade, Heineman, is actually pretty good

Not sure he’d have gotten a shot here with the surplus of wingers we have but he’s got speed and seems to know where to go, middle 6 potential imo

Watching Canada play Czechs right now, didn't know that Ethan Gauthier was Denis's son...Man I miss that guy!
I like Denis Gauthier, but man, I thought I was alone. To me he was one of the few good things about the Young Guns era

Hey, he was a good depth guy, but man oh man, he could lay a helluva hipcheck! Loved that he often did it vs the Oilers on a Saturday night too!
Had to look up his HDB pic, brought a smile to my face!
Then I remembered Ville Niemenin and got an even bigger smile!

Man, time flies...

Denis was awesome, he could lay the lumber for sure. He broke my kid sister's discman in an airport one time. Carrying around his gear and a ton of sticks and just turned and knocked it out of her hand by accident. Apologized profusely and gave me one of his sticks. Crazy his kid is playing for the Juniors. Must have got his mother's hands
