I'll say it, I'm still quite glad Hanifin refused to re-sign. He was a terrible fit on a defense that already had Weegar and Andersson in the top four. All 3 have similar strengths and weaknesses which is why none of them work well when paired with one of the others.

As is tradition, Hanifin wanting out saved the Flames from themselves

The offer we accepted from Vegas was a good indicator of the league-wide perception of Hanifin. I don’t understand the romanticism for this player from this fanbase

Hanifin is good and his time here, he was often underrated. But the revisionist history on his value doesn't average reality to some sort of par.

Agreed Hanifin was too much the same style as what we have. I'm pretty sure Hanifin jumped at the chance to go to Vegas to be with his buddy Eichel. That's OK. I'm happy for him. At least we got pieces instead of potentially nothing. IMO right now, we need more of a stay at home type like Tanev.

Jokiharju is a guy if love to add to our top 4 stylistically and realistic expected acquisition cost.

Hanifin’s game made strides each and every year. The boneheaded passes got less each season and he seemed to get better at recognizing offensive opportunities as well. Not saying he is Norris worthy but he would have been worth 8 x 8.

I don't have a great place to put this, so I'll try here. Over on the History of Hockey forum, we're running a project where we try to rank the top goaltenders of all time. This means comparing and contrasting goaltenders from all eras of hockey, from all teams, from all leagues. It's obviously very difficult to do this as there's so much context that needs to be accounted for, which is why we do it - it's fun and we learn about history.

That's why I'm here, for context on your guy Miikka Kiprusoff, who's currently up for voting! Anything you Flames fans can offer about him is wanted in the voting thread right here. Anything you got: stats, memories, anecdotes, it's all good. Or, if you just want to drop in and read the discussion, of which there's plenty from previous voting rounds, that's welcome too. Thanks!

Stoke me a clipper.
This is definitely a weird timeline. Thanksgiving Day standings, usually around 75-80% accurate in predicting a playoff appearance if I recall correctly.

Can he be claimed, and traded again in the same season?
Maybe

If he's claimed, then he can be traded if no other team put in a claim from what I understand.

But I honestly hope Conroy is all over this (in a trade) like Phat Ras on opposition fans after he scores. Get an asset to eat the rest of the contract, Send Kuzmenko and Miromanov or Pachal to NY

The reason he left Winnipeg was so that his wife could complete her residency in NY. He'll probably never play for a Canadian team again.

Anaheim wtf are you doing man
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say, trying to improve?

Their young D aren't exactly being put in a position to succeed currently, this will give them a bigger minute RHD to help shelter guys like Zellweger, Mintyukov and LaCome a little more than they can now, as both are just 21 and playing close to 20 min a night. It also adds some salary to make it easier to move on from their pending UFAs, as they have $15m in UFAs they may be looking to move in the coming couple months.

And it's not like a 4th is much to pay, hell if he bounces back they can trade him at next years deadline for a decent return.

Yeah mostly this if they get him back to playing half decent there will be a nice market for him at 4 mil next deadline

Oilers don't dig the f*** in and blow a 2 goal lead Bob gift wrapped for them to Florida in Amazon 4K. Coming around on this Prime hockey thing but why the hell did they hire Messier? Hasn't said anything interesting in 30 years.
