Around the NHL 2024-25 regular season Part II

I won't argue with that, but he could just be another Maltsev. A good player, but hardly someone to get upset about.

Trading him for MacDummy is horrible though. Just a really shit trade.
You're right. Bardakov did make a nice leap in production this year compared to the last couple years, so there might be something there. But you never know with these KHL guys.

I am more so pissed because its such a stupid trade for a useless player, for a team that has no center depth.

Look like "they" were wrong.

Bad panic trades are bad even if distance between player and the team is more than we can imagine.

Nemec may never be better than Cooley and Wright. Gritsyuk may never be better than middle six player like Sharangovich. And even a guy like Lazar(who really could be worser NHL player than Bardakov can be if things will go right) may never be more than 13th NHL player. Its not the reason to trade them fast and cheap for nothing or for something bad.

_____

Imagine if we would have some magic privilege to add near NHL ready fast forechecking center/forward to our bottom with a lot of pro experience right before the play off. Would it be good for our depth now.

Anyway.
Its not official, source is questionable but Rotenberg said that both Bardakov and Gritsyuk are going to NHL. Again - source is questionable. We are waiting.

What do you want me to say, Fitz is more than capable of shoddy asset management and this now looks like another example. Maybe he wasn’t going to sign last year and did now for Colorado, we’ll never know that - it’s always hit or miss when dealing with Russian players as to when or if they want to come over. It’s probably more likely they just didn’t think he developed enough to bother keeping him around and they offed him needlessly like Traff this year.

And yeah like I said - they were wrong. In many ways.
If "its always hit or miss when dealing with Russian players" then dont draft them. May be its a bad strategy too and drafting players like Browns and Hurtigs never help to find NHLers in later rounds... well. Yeah. It is. It doesnt help to achive even okay pro-players. And like we see "when or if" is translating quite well. No patience? No smarts? Trades like this and drafts like pasts because you never know "when or if".

Hey I’m all for taking fliers on Russian players but I still remember all the hand wringing here over us trading Rykov to the Rangers, dude never made the NHL and only stayed in NA for two months or so.

Yep, which is why I'm not going to lose any sleep here. Yes, it was a dumb move in the first place but I can't find it in me to get worked up about a player who still might not become anything in NA.

If he does, I'll be right there with everyone else calling Fitz a dummy.

Amazing to see the push and rush to get away from paper and physical to only want to go back when you can make a quick buck off it. Supposedly they charging $45 for this. You would think the “service” fee or the “processing” fee when buying the digital copy would entitle you to the physical

A "great move by the Islanders for fans" would have been to give this to people for free or at the very least charged the bare minimum which is sure as shit not $45 a ticket lol

Rykov was Rykov. We knew how Bardakov played and what kind of player he was. Russians all look not the same. If they decided to make a flyer - so be it. Use 7th round and watch. If its nothing - no one cares, if its something - great, even if its just a bottom line player. And Im not all in guy only. I would understand to use him as a minor part of the trade for Glass.
I just dont like trades of players with potential for nothing. Or when we are trading young players under control for something short term. Or something as bad as McDermid. He didnt worth more than future considerations.

obligatory trojan horse mention...

my problem wasn't trading rykov but rather making a trade with the rangers. zero chance it wasn't going to be scrutinized to the nth degree. in the end he was liquid ass in jersey and the rangers used the 2nd in a package to trade up with ottawa to get k'andre miller

Yeah but Miller was there for us to take as well. We just went with Ty Smith, which was always the wrong choice.

Hindsight is 20/20. Smith was very well regarded as a prospect in his draft year.
True, but there was just something very appealing to me about K'Andre even at the time. Probably the whole "he learned to play as a teenager" thing. Rangers fans call him stupid but you gotta be pretty smart in order to learn that quickly at that age.

My brother in law is a big Rangers fan and he is critical of K'Andre similarly to how NJ fans were often critical of Severson. Lots of great play and lots of frustrating mistakes.

I can't imagine Miller with as many brain farts as Severson, but then again I don't watch the rags all that often. Tonight will be an exception. :D

I don't think Severaon had that many brain farts as many people here blame him for. It's just that the ones he made tended to be catastrophic.
