Around the NHL 2024-25 regular season Part II

Lou's not going to be gotten rid of so easily.
Unless you think he's got blackmail on the Isles, I don't see why they would be above letting him go as two other organizations have done in recent years.

Granted it doesn't seem like they want to let him go, they're probably justifiably worried they'll go from 'having meaningful games' in April to being completely irrelevant again for a decade or more. They're literally between a rock and a hard place, people here can mock the whole fight for the eighth seed mentality and I get they're just running in place at this point (they did have two years where they got pretty close to actually winning something that nobody wants to acknowledge), but that's a lot better than they've done in two decades pre-Lou and a lot better than they'll do when the next guy has to deal with the fallout of the extreme win-now moves of an 80-year old GM.

Poor baby can't handle some truth from the coach when he's getting paid 3.5 million a year...

Eh, I'm always hesitant to jump on players for something like this. It could be that he can't handle criticism. Or it could be he's in a bad spot mentally. This sport has a mentality of "suck it up buttercup" that I think often overlooks mental health. That's started to change in recent years. I'm going to withhold judgement for now until it plays out a bit more.

Absolutely dangerous precedent has been set. You can now take down an opponent like a wrestler with no consequence.

The DoPS is very lenient with stuff that happens in scrums/fights altercations. Not defending that but it isn’t surprising.

A player attacking an unsuspecting player is much more likely to get punished even if it seems less dangerous than what Chatfield did.

(Unless it’s a cross check because the NHL approach to those defies all reason lol.)

I don't really think there's anything underlying to that one. The team waived him. Once no one picked him up at his current contract, Saad could have just reported to the AHL and continued making what he was making. Instead, he and his agent likely went to the team and said if you don't want us here, let's terminate the contract and let me be a UFA so I can play somewhere in the NHL even if it's for less. Becomes a win-win for both parties.

There really isn't a similarity here at all.

Agreed.

I think the NHL and NHLPA both view mutual termination as a good thing for both sides; it’s a way to get players and teams out of situations where everyone wants to move on.

No I’m sorry I don’t agree with this. You signed a contract knowing your capabilities and responsibilities. If he is that mentally weak to criticism then he 1 wouldn’t have made it this far and 2 shouldn’t have signed the contract.

Amazing to see the push and rush to get away from paper and physical to only want to go back when you can make a quick buck off it. Supposedly they charging $45 for this. You would think the “service” fee or the “processing” fee when buying the digital copy would entitle you to the physical

It's like modern video games.

Patrick Roy is a terrible coach and a terrible person. These fake macho tough guys who think screaming and coaching are the same thing need to be removed from the game.
I'm honestly surprised that Roy wanted to coach in the NHL again and that someone was willing to give him a second chance. As soon as everyone in the league figured out his junior hockey-tier strategy in Colorado, he crumbled. He found a very good niche with the Remparts in the Q, and I assume they'd take him back in a heartbeat once he's done with this stint in the NHL.
