Id like to see something outdoors in Alaska with the mountains in the background. Make it as close to pond hockey as humanly possible.
I’ve said as much in the past that they should do the all star game this way. It’s a bleh event anyway so just do a total gimmick route you would draw a massive crowd.

I like the idea of a game on the actual jersey shore like someone mentioned. Screw seating I thought the Tahoe games were great. Play a game in Central Park close it off. In front of the White House. That’s growing the game

Imagine becoming a villain amongst your own fan base. So embarrassing, especially considering this guys age. So story is he took a puck from a kid and the players wives saw what happened and one of them(in the black shirt) comes down to give the kid a puck.

Old guy then yells at someone in the front row and then the mom of the kid before getting booed outta the building by his fellow fans. So embarrassing, what a douche bag...

Devils were playing Caps in the playoffs. Pretty sure it was 1990. My Dad and I went to the game and ended upgrading out seats to 2nd row behind the Caps bench. Given the year I am in my early 20s. During play a puck ends up in the Caps bench. Caps equipment guy tosses it over the glass, and I catch it. Two early teen kids were sitting in front of me, and I was roundly booed. I asked the kids if they wanted it and the one kids says, well I got about 100 of them, keep it. I still have that puck, only one I ever got at a game.

Wow, you are old. I am so glad I couldn’t have attended games that same playoff series also in my 20s.

Devils owners getting a new Philly arena. When do they realistically look for Newark

They own the 76ers, so it obviously benefits them in that regard.

I would hope renovations will be coming sooner than later for the arena. They would need to pump the brakes on the numbers of events they do in the offseason, though.

I have a hard time even imagining a new arena for us cause I don't think there's anything wrong with ours despite it needing some renovations and having the entrances being redone to have people flow inside better. I would much rather see renovations done and tax payers shouldn't be giving a single dime to build a new one if they want it.

If the time comes though there is plenty of room for it though to be built while we still play at Prudential. Could be built right across the street which would make it closer to Newark Penn too. I just want the team to stay in Newark, I have a really hard time imagining them playing anywhere else that would be as convenient for people who drive / want to take the train.

Its gonna be another 15-20 years at The Rock before new arena discussions take place

The crazy thing is we are only like 7 years away from playing just as many years in Newark as they did the Meadowlands.

1982-2007 = 25
2007-2032 = 25

So I'm not sure what happens but I think we definitely hear some rumblings of renovations / maybe a new arena in the next decade.

Harris and Blitzer were thoroughly humbled by Philadelphia by missing out on their own arena outside of South Philly. They might not want to pick a fight for renovations or a new arena for another few years after that ordeal.

That might depend on how long the lease is at the arena?

This says it goes from 25 years from 2013 which would be 2038 and only 6 years after the 25th year of the arena in 2032. Not sure if any of this changed though since Harris/Blitzer bought the arena though and didn't come across anything in a Google search.

For what it's worth, we're still the 7th newest building after the Islanders, Kraken (technically the oldest building in the league but completely gutted and transformed), Red Wings, Golden Knight, Oilers and Pens.

Believe it or not, the arena in Philly (which wasn't even the arena I knew growing up, which was the Spectrum that stood across from it) is actually one of the the oldest arenas in the league now, other than MSG, which is by far the oldest and only one opened before the 80s and I'm pretty sure after the Saddledome is replaced MSG might be the only arena that opener before the 90s?

The Saddledome is older, but there's already plans to replace it. And from the early 90s through 96 when the Philly arena opened, there were several other arenas to open in that stuff. San Jose and Anaheim. And I'm pretty sure the Ottawa building was opened a few years after Ottawa became a team. That might be from the late 90s, along with the two Florida buildings, as the Panthers started out in Miami and the Lightning started out at Tropicana Field before they even had a baseball team there and it was the Thunderdome. Both teams got their own arenas in the late 90s. And Ottawa is only trying to replace theirs because it's int he middle of nowhere.

Remember the Nashville was already built several years before they got the Predators. That arena was already up and open (I think?) back when we were supposed to move there in 95.

I think Vancouver's arena is from the mid 90s also. I'm pretty sure Chicago and St. Louis are both from the mid 90s and replaced ANCIENT buildings. Same with Boston and Buffalo, as well as Toronto and Montreal.

So I don't think there's any chance we get a new arena until more of the 90s buildings start to get phased out and replaced, which I believe Philly is the only current one that doesn't have anything to do with the arena being 30 minutes away from the downtown. I wouldn't be shocked if the Panthers success leads to them getting a new building in downtown Fort Lauderdale within the next few years.

I think there's no chance we get a new building until you start seeing a couple of the 00s buildings that opened before us getting replaced.

That’s a great freaking post good stuff

I’ve only been to Wells Fargo a couple times I don’t remember anything that was bad does anyone know the issues for a new one? Esp they just did a reno like 8 years ago.

You would think the devils being built in 07 and any newer building built in the ability for a Reno before needing a new one.

Another thing is I don't really see much wrong with our arena that could be improved to the next one. Usually owners want to get out of old buildings because they didn't have enough suites.

Prudential has more than enough suites and special sections and they already renovated a few of those areas a few times already. Both sets of fire and ice lounges were renovated and can easily be renovated again. The first level suites behind the shoot 2x area were renovated not long ago and 2nd level suites with a new all you can eat food area were renovated in the off season. Plus the locker rooms and scoreboard were all replaced not that long ago.

The major things to me are the arena needs new suites and a deep clean. Check out under the seats, especially when you're walking up the stairs and can see under other rows, it's disgusting.

The bathrooms need a complete re-do. There's even space for more stalls and urinals too already in there, they just need to add them and all the fixtures need replacing.

Getting inside can be a pain during a big event but that has more to do with how they setup everything. They put security right at the door and it makes a big clog, instead security should be deeper inside and everything should have proper queues to funnel people in better.

Other than that idk what else people would even want that would warrant a new arena. Even from an owners end idk what they would want added that would really make a huge difference from what we already have and that can't be renovated into the current arena.

Thanks, I appreciate. Most of those figures I just rattled off in my head, but I did have to cheat to realize the Devils were only the 7th oldest building in the league.

I don't think there's any set time when a renovation becomes due, but I would think you would see some kind of mini renovation or upgrades done at Prudential Center before the building is retired.

And if I'm not mistaken, I believe the renovations at Wells Fargo were done even more recently than 8 years ago. Wasn't it only like 2-3 years ago? Or maybe I'm just thinking of the locker room area.

I remember us playing there and them showing the locker room in the post game and it was much improved from the past. The NHL road team in Philly had to use the Villanova basketball team home locker room. There's other buildings that do this and I know the visitors locker room at Prudential Center was the home locker room for Seton Hall basketball, but I'm pretty sure they inherited the Nets locker room (which was constructed after the arena opened to accommodate the Nets temporary move) after they moved to Brooklyn. In those cases I'm sure they keep the visiting college basketball teams in some tiny little auxiliary locker room.

I'm really trailing off now, but there was a time at the Meadowlands after it opened where the Nets and Devils shared a locker room. So on game nights the Devils would get that locker room, pack up and head to the practice rink/on the road after games and the Nets would come in and do the same. I remember one of the three original Devils from the 95 cup (Dano, MacLean, Driver) team talked about how the three of them took the cup into the old locker room to take a pic with it together as a symbolization of being right back where it all began. At some point early on in the 80s they constructed the Devils their own locker room there. There probably wasn't enough time to build a new one between when it was announced the Devils were coming and the start of the season.

Naturally the main board is (incorrectly) inferring that as some team is going to give Klingberg a big contract and/or immediately give him top 4 minutes and PP1 time. But I'd imagine some teams have a #7 spot open and Klingberg would probably sign for close to the veteran minimum. Coming off the surgery, I'd imagine Klingberg would need some time to ramp up as well.

Florida could make some sense but they already have a younger version of current day Klingberg with Adam Boqvist, so I don't know if they'd want two guys like that. Boston put Charlie McAvoy on IR today and called up Michael Callahan. Not sure if they'd consider Klingberg an upgrade over a replacement level AHL callup nowadays.
