Around the NHL 2024-2025

Vegas has preferential reffing.

f*** Vegas
That tackle by Hertl would have been a penalty in the NFL. Just beyond ridiculous that Vegas has a 5-1 advantage in power plays, even considering the double minor on Buium was 100% deserved. The “slashing” penalty earlier in the game on JEE was farcical and they essentially let Vegas have a timeout earlier in the game letting Cassidy argue an icing call for about 2 minutes.

I think it's odd that the Wild decided to debut 19 y/o Buium in the NHL playoffs.

Another factor to consider is that Tkachuk has a history with DOPS but Hagel did not. I’m just not sure if that is considered during the playoffs like it is in the regular season. Personally, I didn’t think the Hagel hit was suspension-worthy, but as I said you set a standard there and I think you have to live with it.
As soon as it happened, my first thought was that the NHL should even things up with a 1 game suspension but after reviewing, I disagree. No head/neck contact, Guentzel had just played the puck.

If the Hagel incident hadn't happened, I don't think we're even talking about a suspension, but I'm curious to see how the NHL plays it.

Aside from being slightly late it was a pretty clean hit.

I don’t think it’s close to suspendable. There was nothing wrong with the hit itself, it was just late.

Agree. And it really only looks late in slo-mo. I can understand the 5 min major to try to not let the end of the game descend into chaos but I don’t think it should be suspendable.

I love Cooper as a coach but the two hits simply aren’t the same. Barkov never played the puck. Guentzel did. That made Guentzel eligible to be hit.

Stars got absolutely destroyed last night. They desperately need Heiskanen and Robertson back in the lineup if they want any chance to win the series.

I went out to a bar to watch the game last night with some buddies. Wore my Blues jersey. Got lots of side-eye looks, but I did get a few "Let's go Blues" fistbumps.

Dallas wasn’t right down the stretch. This is more of the same.

Colorado got some juice from Landeskog returning. I’m rooting for every other series to go 7 games with lots of wear and tear.

Horrible scouting by the Blues. Perunovich was never going to be more than a marginal AHL player. Never near the same class as Hutson.
Meh, it was worth a shot. Just didn’t work out.

I’m overall extremely happy with our amateur scouting. From Jarmo to Bill Armstrong to Tony Feltrin now, we haven’t missed a single beat.

Perunovich was also picked 17 spots ahead of where Hutson landed in their respective draft classes. Yeah, massive whiff on that one.

Even Montreal drafted 3 other players before they took Hutson in that draft. Let’s not pretend they’re geniuses and everyone else are morons for not seeing it. He was a very talented 17 yr old but also 5’10” and 145 lbs soaking wet. There were legit concerns on his future.

Oh, no I wasn't suggesting they had a crystal ball. Just noting the fact.

Ok then I’ll disagree on the Perunovich being a massive whiff part then. Yeah, he was a whiff but not remotely a massive one.

Most 2nd round picks are whiffs so the fact Perunovich was one really shouldn’t be all that shocking or an indictment of our scouting staff. They aimed for a home run and missed. It happens.

Perunovich has 32 pts in 108 games played so far. Here’s the historical success rates of the draft:
Success Rates of NHL Draft Picks - The Hockey Writers NHL Entry Draft Latest News, Analysis & More

Peru was picked 45th overall. Smack dab in the middle of the 2nd round. The average 2nd round pick has a 39.9% chance of playing in 100 games. He’s already surpassed that. Only 21.4% of 2nd rounders ever score 100 points. Scotty isn’t there yet but keep in mind, he’s a d-man and this data includes forwards. He’s pretty much a bust yet he’s also surpassed the average performance of his draft spot. Not remotely a massive whiff.

Oilers tie it with 28 seconds left. Byfield had the chance for the easiest clear and doens't. He was like 5 feet away from the blue line and no one around him
