Wild beating Vegas 4-1. Honestly thought Vegas would steamroll them
I'm a little surprised as well at how they are skating circles around them, but not surprised they are winning. Minny was the best team in hockey from a record standpoint, until they were decimated with injuries in December. And long-term ones to Ek, Kaprisov and Brodin. I could be wrong, but I think they were something like 19-5-3 up until that time. They are a heckuva team, even with the cap limitations from the Suter/Parise buyouts, which drop significantly next season. VGK may be sleeping on them and it might cost them.

lol

I swear I’m not a moron but yeah, looks like I fell for that one. Didn’t look closely enough when that popped up on my feed last night.

Nevermind, carry on lol
Haha happens to the best of us. Just glad it’s fake as I really like Carle and would hate to see him go to the hawks!

True. Although I have heard the Hawks are the front runners to get him so that’s probably why I believed it was true. I guess we’ll see. I could also see him stay at Denver as he pretty much has a job for life there if he wants.

Well that didn’t last long…

Not like it’s completely going away though as they’ll just select a new jury today. @Brian39, what would be the main causes of a mistrial declared so early? One of the jurors didn’t follow the rules? Just seems odd is all.

Could be that the prosecutor said something during opening statements that had been deemed inadmissible. But I think you're right that it had something to do with the jury. Could be that a juror overheard something prejudicial. Could be that a juror reported comments from another juror that indicated bias which was hidden during jury selection. Could be that a juror got a threat that scared the entire panel. Could be some other unknown thing that tainted the jury in some way.

It's tough to get a good read on what's going on based on the Canadian laws about what the media can report (and the fact that most of the media reporting on it aren't courtroom reporters). I've seen conflicting reports about whether the court was paused during testimony of the prosecution's first witness or just before the testimony was about to begin. If the witness had in fact started, it could be that the witness said something that was previously ruled inadmissible and that tainted the jury.

Regardless, it is a hell of a lot easier to declare a mistrial and start over this early into a trial than it would be several weeks in. Losing 2 days of progress is annoying (to the judge, lawyers, and jurors), but it is much easier to swallow than losing a month.

Nooooo! I love Buccigross. He’s hilarious.
I love Bucci the person and human being as an on air personality and host. He's just a tough live action listen for me. I'm just getting to the age where I yern for the nostalgia of the great 90's hockey broadcast teams. I've been watching the FD broadcast but I've seen people on the board and a work buddy talking about how whoever the chick is doing color on the ESPN broadcast is absolutely butchering players names.

So, how about that Nikishin drama? If true, again, IF, then it seems like Carolina screwed up big time.
What's the scuttlebutt on Nikishin? Last I saw he was in the locker room yucking it up with Brind 'Amour before the playoffs. What did I miss?

They brought him over but now that he's here, they're showing no urgency to actually sign him.

Tulsky said that there wouldn’t be an issue in registering the contract if Nikishin’s services were needed in short order, but waiting to register the deal delays the payout of his $92.5K signing bonus and, obviously, impedes his ability to earn the $1.038MM performance bonus in his deal for winning playoff MVP honors, however unlikely that would have been.

I hadn’t heard either so just looked into it. Apparently the Canes announced weeks ago that they came to an agreement with Nikishin but then the Canes GM admitted he never actually registered the contract with the league. I can only assume they’re trying to not burn a year of his contract for yet this season and/or have him eligible for the AHL playoffs. My guess is they don’t really see him as a legit option to unseat a current d-man from the roster and play in the NHL playoffs yet this season. So I get the logic, but assuming Nikishin was told he’d be singing with the Canes and possibly playing in the NHL playoffs, it’s shady as heck.

And here’s what Nikishin’s agent had to say about it:
Carolina is behaving incomprehensibly, and not only for us, but for scouts and representatives of other NHL clubs,” agent Alexander Chernykh told Olesya Usova of RB Sport (translated from Russian). “Everyone is shocked and outraged. But, as I was told, this never surprises, because Carolina always behaves like this and with everyone. At the moment, we cannot comment on the situation, because the club’s actions defy common sense. If this continues, Alexander will either go back, or we will ask for a trade.
Not good…

The meat’s on the burner! Get it done, Army!

Perhaps I'd be a terrible lawyer but I don't really get why some teams dick around with such important, potential cornerstones like what Vancouver is doing with Willander and now Carolina and Nikishin...they've been waiting for this guy to come to North America for years and now they are squabbling over such nothingness, on the surface.

This. Love Bucci on color, not play by play. And that woman was turrble. I 100% welcome female color analysts, but if they're assigned to a Stanley Cup Playoff Game they game they shouldn't suck.

Buccigross is an interesting announcer - I actually enjoy him when he's NOT calling a Blues game. He has a conversational aura with KW that sounds like two guys who love hockey talking hockey. It's kinda fun. You get the - JB: Oh that was a slick play there - KW: You're right Bucci, he found that little seam and team X was off to the races - JB: He's been making more of those as the season has gone on, really nice development from player Y - KW: Yea he's going to be a good one for sure - keep an eye on him. Two dudes commenting on a game like you and your friend watching on the couch.

That said - I f***ing hate it when he calls our games though lol.

Clarification on the Nikishin thing. The quote above is from his Russian agent…who really isn’t his agent anymore since he can only negotiate KHL contracts. His US based agent chimed in with this to try to defuse the situation:

So sounds like perhaps the US based agent is in agreement of this deal and maybe the Russian agent is just blowing smoke to try to get his client back over to Russia but who knows. Still seems bush league. He’s your best prospect, Canes. Considered by many as the best prospect outside the NHL currently. Why screw around with this?

“At the moment we can’t comment” right after his comment. Gold.

I don’t mind Cassie Campbell Pascal on the broadcast. She’s not perfect, and I did notice the confusing Snuggy and Neighbours on that goal against replay, but I think she usually does OK.

I’d prefer her to Buccigross for instance. Like others said, Bucci is a great personality and I like him generally speaking, but he’s just awful as a play by play guy. He’s way over his head trying to do play by play in the NHL IMO.

I also agree. Bucci was basically last-minute emergency backup play-by-play for ESPN back in the 90s. (Yes, I also miss Gary Thorne.) Bucci was much more comfortable in-studio with Barry Melrose. His ESPN.com articles back in those days were informative and hilarious.

Holy shit, things getting heated after the 2nd period in Montreal. Anderson and Wilson fighting in the bench
