With our depth issues on D, any interest in Dante Fabbro who was placed on waivers by the Predators today?

Edit: CaliBlues beat me to it.

At $2.5 million? I don't know that much about the guy but seems like a decent sized risk. What do we do with him when Leddy and Broberg come back?

He's a RHD so it's more of a question what we do with Kessel and POJ. I myself am completely done with Perunovich so he can get lost. If Fabbro doesn't work he's a UFA at the end of this year as well.

Curious if he’s really an upgrade on Kessel. I like Matt’s game. I think he’s a perfectly serviceable bottom pairing guy. Fabbro would be a fine claim for depth as we could jettison Perunovich, but I don’t think he moves the needle much if at all.

He’s a RHD.

At full health, it’d be

Suter/Leddy-Parayko
Broberg-Faulk
Leddy/Suter-Fabbro
Joseph

Kessel goes back down to Springfield, and Peru finally gets waived.

I'm not totally against it, although I think Kessel has been better lately. I guess we'd have to decide if it's worth stunting Kessel's growth to take a flyer on Fabbro, and I'm not in a position to make that call.

I don’t think playing 22+ min a night in Springfield would be worse for him than playing 12 min a night here. He hasn’t improved from last season, and quite frankly, he’s been worse.

Winnipeg’s first team in history to start a season 14-1, what a bunch of overachievers lol. They’re peaking too early.
The only thing that would really make me optimistic for Winnipeg is if banking all these points early causes them to heavily manage Hellebuyck's workload in the last 2-3 months of the season to make him truly rested heading into the playoffs. He has a long history of being an absolute stud in the regular season and then just a guy (or worse) in the playoffs. Any potential playoff success for them is contingent on him being a stud and while I don't think that workload is the sole cause of his playoff struggles, I do think it is a major contributor.

He currently leads the league in starts, so it doesn't yet appear that they intend to rest him. However, if they treat him like a workhorse for 3 months, bank a bunch of points, and then heavily dial back the workload I could see myself somewhat believing in them as a playoff threat.

They have opened up a 5 point lead on Minnesota, a 12 point lead on Dallas, and a 14 point lead on Colorado. If they can keep that 10+ point cushion on home ice for round 1 by the start of January, it seems like a no brainer to really dial back his workload to ensure that he is as fresh as possible for the middle of April.

All that said, that organization has shown absolutely zero interest in managing his workload so I'm not holding my breath.

Kyle Turris is still being paid by the Predators and that will continue through the 27-28 season. Was he an even bigger dud than Drouin?

That Utah game was a good outcome for the tank, also Colorado starting to move ahead. I appreciated Detroit Pitt going to OT.

Edmonton and Colorado shouldn't be caught from here. Utah Seattle Nashville and the Blues for the 10-13 spots in the conf, with Chi SJ and ANA still on the bottom.

One single pick in the first four rounds being a possible top ten pick – they have to come away with a talent anchor this draft. 1/2C or 1D

Would love to know what names were on the table for Necas this summer.
I agree. This is now the second time we've been in the mix for an extremely talented player (MT being the other) and we haven't made it happen, only to see that player take off right away after passing.

I do kinda wonder if this is what Army was talking about during the pre-season when he kept mentioning something along the lines of, "It's easy to trade a veteran for a young player, but it's hard to trade a young player for a veteran," or something along those lines. I wonder if we dangled Snuggy/Bolduc/Stenberg as the main piece for Necas and Carolina simply wouldn't bite.

I'd be pretty surprised if Carolina would have entertained any offer for Necas that didn't include our 1st round pick. And while we could have protected that 1st rounder, doing so then turns the deal into an unprotected 2026 1st rounder. We probably could have gotten out of including a 1st if we offered Dvorsky, but that is another very uncomfortable proposition.

I was a fan of trying to buy low on him, but the fact that they didn't move him tells me that they were asking for a haul and held firm.

Who was the first player you're referencing?

I watch a lot of non-Blues hockey. It's crazy to me how many goals are scored by getting traffic in front of the net and shooting the puck, even from a distance. Basic hockey stuff. Yet, the Blues seem allergic to doing this.
