With our depth issues on D, any interest in Dante Fabbro who was placed on waivers by the Predators today?

Edit: CaliBlues beat me to it.

At $2.5 million? I don't know that much about the guy but seems like a decent sized risk. What do we do with him when Leddy and Broberg come back?

He's a RHD so it's more of a question what we do with Kessel and POJ. I myself am completely done with Perunovich so he can get lost. If Fabbro doesn't work he's a UFA at the end of this year as well.

Curious if he’s really an upgrade on Kessel. I like Matt’s game. I think he’s a perfectly serviceable bottom pairing guy. Fabbro would be a fine claim for depth as we could jettison Perunovich, but I don’t think he moves the needle much if at all.

He’s a RHD.

At full health, it’d be

Suter/Leddy-Parayko
Broberg-Faulk
Leddy/Suter-Fabbro
Joseph

Kessel goes back down to Springfield, and Peru finally gets waived.

I'm not totally against it, although I think Kessel has been better lately. I guess we'd have to decide if it's worth stunting Kessel's growth to take a flyer on Fabbro, and I'm not in a position to make that call.

I don’t think playing 22+ min a night in Springfield would be worse for him than playing 12 min a night here. He hasn’t improved from last season, and quite frankly, he’s been worse.

Winnipeg’s first team in history to start a season 14-1, what a bunch of overachievers lol. They’re peaking too early.
The only thing that would really make me optimistic for Winnipeg is if banking all these points early causes them to heavily manage Hellebuyck's workload in the last 2-3 months of the season to make him truly rested heading into the playoffs. He has a long history of being an absolute stud in the regular season and then just a guy (or worse) in the playoffs. Any potential playoff success for them is contingent on him being a stud and while I don't think that workload is the sole cause of his playoff struggles, I do think it is a major contributor.

He currently leads the league in starts, so it doesn't yet appear that they intend to rest him. However, if they treat him like a workhorse for 3 months, bank a bunch of points, and then heavily dial back the workload I could see myself somewhat believing in them as a playoff threat.

They have opened up a 5 point lead on Minnesota, a 12 point lead on Dallas, and a 14 point lead on Colorado. If they can keep that 10+ point cushion on home ice for round 1 by the start of January, it seems like a no brainer to really dial back his workload to ensure that he is as fresh as possible for the middle of April.

All that said, that organization has shown absolutely zero interest in managing his workload so I'm not holding my breath.
