I’d be furious as a Wings fan that they paid San Jose a 2nd rounder to take Walman, and then San Jose just got a 1st and prospect in return for him.

Crazy what teams who don’t pay state income tax can do, like sign top 5 wingers out of nowhere and on short notice to hundred million dollar deals. Dallas about to give Armstrong a Marner comp for this offseason.

Seems like there is no deal now. Seems like Rantanen is going to test free agency, but we shall see

You’d think there’s time for Vegas?

Then the tables will turn sooooooo fast.

Imagine you’re Rantanen.

If you sign a deal you’re worth 100 million dollars or so.

How much are you worth if you blow your acl in round 1 playing for a team you just got to and won’t sign with?

The dude will be desperate today to sign if you wait just the right amount of time.

If he can’t get a deal to leave the canes:

Does he then have to sign a 1 year deal in Carolina? Why would they do that? If you’re them you demand 2 lol. Then Rantanen is selling years 30-38 which is a lot different math than 27-35

They’re gonna flip the situation against him if Rantanen group didn’t have a backup. Rantanens agents taking the biggest L so far and it would be spectacle if the floor fell out on them. Perhaps Dallas is playing off this. Be dumb not to. The only salvation is a finish line and there are mere hours.

I’m a big fan of Marchand to the Jets

Chevy is a goat and he is a magician.

It would be a Chevy thing to do.

Marchand fits every room but that room is so full of committed vets. Ehlers leaves next season so there is room for Marchand to sign if he wants or Ehlers could be a trade piece to Boston. Marchand also fits the ages of the jets young dudes. There is time for Marchand to continue to play there a few years before those guys need to take the icetime.

I’m backing my boy Chevy today. Do your thing homie.

$80M+ on 7/1/25.

There would be plenty of teams willing to give him 7 years at an AAV a couple million less than what he otherwise would have gotten if healthy. Maybe the suitors change, but a rebuilding team (or one exiting a rebuild) would be happy to eat a recovery season in 2025/26 to get him for 6 more years at a potential large discount in years 2-7.

Rantanen's agent should (and very likely would) be happy to chuckle and end all conversations with Carolina if they try to flip the situation and make offers as if Rants is desperate to sign with them.

I wonder if we can see this as a template for a possible Brayden Schenn trade, especially because Schenn has term left. Army's rumored ask was two 1st round picks (or equivalent). The Nelson trade is just that.
The template is there but personally, I’d value Nelson slightly higher. He’s bigger and aging a bit better. Schenn brings some extra intangibles and has a Cup on his resumé but Nelson’s a little better at the C position and C is what teams are looking for.

Was just about to comment on how Boston, 2pts less than us, saw a sellers market and cashed the hell in. Smart moves.
Boston is also in a completely different conference with a different playoff race. Blues are 2 points back and have 6 wins in the last 10 games and Boston is 4 points back and have won only 2. Blues also have the easiest upcoming Schedule to close the season while Boston is closer to the middle.

The teams were chasing have games in hand, and we just lost our best defensemen. We're in a similar situation to Boston, on the outside looking in. Shoulda accumulated a few assets, massive sellers market.

Imo

Faksa would have been moved imo if there was desire. We didn’t extend him this week like I had guessed and no trade plus no extension would imply to me that he has very low value.

Suter has maybe ice time needs that really only seemed viable if other teams had serious injury issues. I don’t think he’s a good candidate for a 7th or even bottom pairing role. I think he’s a negative in those roles. He’s a positive as a top for emergency fill for sure. I would guess there was 0 interest here, just a weird puzzle piece that needed a weird fit. Maybe if somebody had the weird need we would have gotten more than we expected.

There was nobody else to sell that would have been ez or I see that we could sell. Just the guys with clauses and term.

The teams we are chasing have the 6th and 15th most difficult upcoming schedules and have both been struggling lately.

We don't have pending UFAs and Schenn didn't waive his NTC. I don't blame Army. If he had a deal for Schenn in place and Schenn nixed it, what can he do. Selling Faksa and Suter aren't doing much for us.

Its clear DA decided to hold and not mess w/the chemistry, so clearly i cant name teams. But with Beauviller returning a 2nd, and Wallman getting a 1st, im sure 3rd or 4th rounders werent out of reach for Faksa or Suter.
