I was a bit puzzled at first. In the final year of his deal and has been a decent secondary producer for them. Did notice that he had just 33 points last year, and that's not great considering he makes nearly 6M in salary (5,875,000) this year and last. Not sure he brings a whole lot to the table beyond chipping in offensively.

I figure they just want to try and clear as much of his salary as possible, and free up more minutes for youth.

From what I've gathered in the past on SJ board is that Labanc is a passenger type player like Comtois, much better player than Comtois though. Maybe it'll wake him up or they don't want him influencing the youth movement.

I'm no Avs fan but i'm loving how tightly they are playing bedard. Absolutely stifling him.

It's gonna be really interesting to see how Bedard evolves in relation to Jack Hughes. it's a clear as day tossup for me but the hockey establishment won't be giving that possibility any thought anytime soon

So according to a thread on the main board, statistically Lafreniere is the biggest bust in draft history... its really not looking good for him.

On a side note Byfield taken by the Kings with pick 2 is looking like a really bad pick compared to the players drafted after him. We got Carlsson with our pick 2 haha

Doesn't help that Laf has Greg Oden syndrome in that he looked 40 years old when he was drafted. Greg Oden the 1st overall pick in NBA 2007 looked 50 years old and he completely busted.

Carlsson vs Byfield
McTavish vs Turcotte
Zegras vs Kupari
Mintyukov vs Clarke
LaCombe vs Bjornfoot
Lundestrom vs Akil Thomas.

It’s very likely at this point that the 3rd-6th picks (Stuezle, Raymond, Sanderson, Drysdale) in 2020 draft are all better than Lafreniere and Byfield

Still some upside with Byfield. I think Lafreniere is about cooked - not even sure he’s an NHL player

He’s definitely an NHLer. 39 points is solid depth. Tough to be looking at just solid depth from a 1st overall though

It seems like the Sens and Ducks are always on the upswing at the same time. Wonder if we get a rematch down the road.

39 points getting to play with some great players. He might be a 4th liner
I thought the problem was he wasn’t getting opportunities with anyone other than grinders last season? I don’t watch their games unless they play us so I can really only look at stats, but I’d take a 39 point guy here over most of our bottom 6.

That’s not the case. Laf has gotten all the opportunities but doesn’t do anything with them.

Jackets are doing the opposite of the Ducks, they are loading up on shooters on a line with Laine and Fantilli on same line but with Laine playing Center. The Ducks have 3 playmakers on their top line and it seems to be working better. Fantilli with 1 point in 4 games (assist).

We don’t talk about Bruno. :sarcasm:

Always prefer a playmaker over a shooter if given the choice. Easier to get a playmaker to score goals than to get a shooter to make plays. Call me a traditionalist but I don’t like how so many of these young C’s are shoot-first guys lol
