I don't even hate Bettman THAT much, but I'm intrigued by the idea of new blood coming in and taking his spot.

But who knows? It could wind up actually being someone worse or Bill Daly. I actually think Bill Daly probably is worse.

It'll be interesting to see how the CBA talks go between Bettman and Marty Walsh in 2 years.

Actually, hopefully within the next year, as we're likely getting another lockout if it's not done in 2 years, as I believe it runs through 2025-2026.

There has to be a point where height is detrimental to a hockey player, no?

A speedy forward can dangle around the huge area between the players stick and feet. Also, probably difficult to get pucks that are near your feet with that large of a stick (insert Pierre McGuire meme)

I presume you remember the epic battles between Gionta and Chara.

I think for extremely big and extremely small players it comes down to how often they can impose their will during the key moment. They’re unique and can impact the game in a way others likely can’t but they also have unique struggles to get there.

As an example, if you’re small and fast, can you turn the board battle into who is quicker rather than who is stronger? And vice versa for the bigger guys.

The guys that make it can turn those key moments in their favor while the guys that don’t, can’t.

I just saw on the sidebar of recently posted threads that Mike Haviland has been hired to be an assistant coach for the Blue Jackets.

He was a complete darling around here about 12 or 13 years ago. People were calling for his hiring as head coach, I think the year we hired DeBoer. He's a New Jersey native and for some reason he had a cult following around here back then. That's a name I haven't heard of in so long though, so I forgot he even existed.

And in the same thread title, it looks like they've fired Mark Recchi. He only lasted one year this time lol.

EDIT - Ugh, he was a part of the Blackhawks coaching staff for a few years, including that 2010 cup team. That was his only NHL assistant coaching job before this and that ended in 2012.

The fact that he has had absolutely zero relevance in the league since 2012 probably got him off the hook from taking much heat for any of that.

Had the Hlinka Gretzky game on in the background and this graphic popped up. One of my favorite random anecdotes was that the Hlinka Gretzky (originally the Pacific Cup) was originally hosted in Japan from 1991-1995.

Except for 1994 when it was hosted in Mexico City. It was amusing rewatching the 1995 Draft on YouTube. A few times the analysts would say something like "He had a disappointing season but looked really good in Mexico" without a trace of sarcasm.

Also I have an Adam Colagiacomo card somewhere and I was sure he was going to be a stud. Had more points than his linemates, some guys named Thornton and Marleau.

I think Iginla seemed to give up the cup chasing at the end and just said f*** it with that 3 year deal to joke Colorado.

After going to Pittsburgh at the deadline, I think he signed a one year deal with Boston, who had just went to the SCF the year before.

But then he signed a 3 year old deal with Colorado, after they had that FLUKE season where Roy won the Jackass Adams in 13-14. He was delusional if he thought he was winning shit with them. Maybe he really did try to hope to catch the same voodoo by going to Colorado to finally win the cup just like Bourque did, but that was a horrible decision if made win the intention of winning the cup at the end of his career. I'm pretty sure Colorado missed the playoffs all 3 years he was there, with that last year being the season they had where they were the worst team in the league since the expansion Thrashers 15+ years earlier (since been topped by the 23-24 Sharks) and he ended up in LA at the deadline. Who went on to miss the playoffs anyway lol.
