Because if you cover him then you leave TJ Oshie openAnother PP, and yet again, Ovechkin has enough room to build a city.
I'll never understand it.

Agreed.I'd gladly give up the next 6 seasons if it amounted to the same type of team.
It doesn't have to take as long though.
He’s easily been a top 10 winger for a few years nowHello, and welcome to the Wheeler train. There are not nearly enough people on it.
Is he better than Toews, though?Hello, and welcome to the Wheeler train. There are not nearly enough people on it.

I mean, they do have to deal with Tanev, Hellebuyck, Morrissey, Armia, and Trouba in the offseason. The scary thing about Winnipeg is that they somehow have a billion dollars in cap space. Tampa Bay North.
Having two top pairing RHD's, a whole legitimate top line and good depth is how Winnipeg got here. The Rangers are missing the elite talent that Winnipeg has. The Rangers don't have a Wheeler, Schiefele, or Laine. If the Rangers can draft Wahlstrom he has potential to be a Laine-like player that can score 30-40 a year. Laine is successful because he has good distributors. Laine without Schiefele, Wheeler, Trouba, Buff, and Ehlers would be a glorified floater.Yeah Winnpeg ****ed off for a bit.
This iteration was more like the last 3-4 years, which I'd be willing to put up with if you told me we'd have a dynasty like Winnipeg is going to.

And that's just their RFAs.
Laine/Connor the summer after.

Meanwhile, Bowman still somehow circumvents the cap every year...They'll be ok for a few years though.
It would appear the cap monster is just now colliding into TB this summer, but I've said that before.

It's going to be more of the same this year. I'm already expecting the disappointment of Lundestrom, Veleno, or Hayton by going safe or going way off the wall with Kupari, Wilde, or trading up for Tkachuk and having them not pan out. Joel Farabee would actually be the best case scenario prototypical "safe" Rangers pick that they can make.Winnipeg made top 10 picks count. Laine, Ehlers, Schiefele.
Was nice to see us swing for the fences with our top 10 pick!

And some key pieces to pay.
Can you say "amnesty buyout"?Meanwhile, the Canadiens owe Alzner, Weber, and Price 23.1 million until 2023, and Weber and Price nearly 19 million until Filip Chyil is in his 40's.

Just once I want the Rangers to take a skill player in the top 10 that has a good chance to make it that isn't completely off the wall like McIlrath was. Give me Wahlstrom, Zadina, Boqvist, or Hughes early on, and Kravtsov, Bergrenn, Bokk, or Kaut later.
