* Saw 2 great games tonight. Didn't watch a microsecond of Penguins-Flyers
* Dustin Brown is awful at carrying the puck.
* The league will no doubt look at Doughty's hit on Carriere, looked like a head shot to me.
* Quick is incredibly athletic (I knew it already after all these years, but this game was another reminder). So many times I looked at where he was positioned and wondered how does this guy make that work somehow. He does, though.

After watching the Rangers through that final stretch, it sure is nice to watch playoff brand hockey.

2015
Which regular-season qualities predict playoff success?
• Offense matters most of all.
• Goaltending matters too.
• Defence matters a little.
• Scoring talent barely matters at all.

Tbh he should start adding in Washington's 2nd Round curse into the model, lol.

I love the fact that people were so concerned about the Flyers they were willing to sacrifice a possible two playoff spots in somewhat increase the chances they miss the playoffs. That team is a joke, they're out in 5 max.
I'd be livid if I was a Panthers fan. Flyers make the playoffs over them by 1 point, proceed to get murderized in Game 1.

So does Byfuglien get away clean from that punch he threw? Yes, no injury, and it wasn't a hard punch, but it was right to the jaw and he's already been fined a few times and also suspended when he tried to kill Miller back in 2015.

The Doughty hit? So close. I guess it depends on Carrier's status. The old Day To Day.

I hate to say it, because I'm not a fan of him or the Kings, but when I watch Quick play I can't help but feel I'm watching Richter if he played in today's nhl.

It happens to a lot of teams. Same could be said for the Blues this year.

Panthers as a franchise other than the 96 Rats have never really had a signature moment as a franchise and they've been in the league 25 years now. Ironically all of their other playoff appearances they've done the J.O.B. to the Rangers, Devils x2, and Islanders.

If any teams needs a Dahlin or Svechnikov, it's them.

When you have terrible management a generational talent is no guarantee of success.

Believe me, that thought appeared in my head last night watching him. Glad you brought it up.
Likewise, I am no fan of the LA Kings.

Sheary too. Rust. Out of the deep blue sky.

Only they can make Ian Cole look like an NHL defenseman. Got Brassard for nothing. Now you understand why I hate them more over the Devils, Flyers, or any other team.
Got Brassard for plenty, though.

The league wants them to be THE team. Their version of the Cowboys.

There are two reasons I believe this to be the case:

1. Gretzky is the greatest of all-time but he was a WHA player first. Ditto with Howe for the next to last chapter of his career. Lemieux is "pure" in that professionally he was all NHL, and he's also from Montreal which despite how much Toronto wants to be the center of the hockey universe, MTL is the traditional or historic center of hockey.

2. The city of Pittsburgh likes to brag about how blue collar they are and they're the "real America" etc. It's to the point of comical in 2018 and don't even get me started about how they use this an an EZ Pass. But there's this perception around Canada that due to Pittsburgh being this way, they're the closest to a Canadian city.

This is why I scream about scouting US prep and the USHL. That’s where Boston, Chi, and Pitt have drafted all of their depth. These kids are well coached, play solid two-way games, and compete. Carolina built their defense out of the USNTDP/USHL.

We so severely underscout it and it’s infuriating.

Huge playoffs for Bob. He's had a bad few experiences. If he doesn't steal at least one game or keep his numbers down despite Washington being fairly top heavy, he's going to officially start having that dreaded "reputation" that Nash does as not a playoff performer.

I didn't think the Brassard trade was a bad deal for Ottawa especially after they dealt Cole for a 3rd and a depth prospect.

So 1st + 3rd + Good goalie prospect + Depth forward prospect

Doesn't seem that bad
Got Brassard for plenty, though.

Agree to disagree. Goalie prospects can go either way. Gustavsson looks decent but far from a sure thing. Basically him and the 31st overall (blegh) for Brassard signed for two more years is great value for Pittsburgh.

Oilers CEO Bob Nicholson has confirmed that Edmonton will carry forward with GM Peter Chiarelli

Sweet. This gives Gorton a chance to poach him.
