"He struggled early, especially coming back off of injury, and probably wasn't as engaged as he should be, but he looks like he's getting his game going,"

"He played real well for me in the times I had him. He's a good player, big body. Obviously he's an elite, elite player, but he can skate and think. At that level he's not a dynamic scorer or anything, but he's a real solid player."

certain coach on rick nash.

guess the coach in question.

Curious if anybody has heard any talk about raising the active roster limit from 23 with the cap going up next year. You would think GM's would be in favor as it could keep salary's down a bit and wouldn't expose as many players that were drafted by your team.

i haven't heard a thing about that.

where did you get that?

This wasn't coming from anything I've heard recently. I've heard it mentioned in the past and was just wondering if it was possibly on the GM's radars for this years meetings. I just think it makes sense and not really sure of the draw backs.

Marleau's 3-year deal is worth $6.66 M a year AAV; Thornton's deal is $6.75 M a year AAV.

Tha'ts a whole lot of commitment to those guys. Be interesting to see how they fill out their blueline.

You think? By comparison Vancouver gave the Sedins $7M and we are giving Pavel $7.5M. Those three got raises, Patty and Joe are taking a paycut.

I like how Vancouver's constructed a bit more than SJ right now, though. SJ looks to have a hole on that blueline, and I have to think Demers will be looking for a raise. A lot will rest on what they can re-sign Boyle for (or if).

A second point, and this is probably a bit unfair to Thornton/Marleau and the Sedins, but those clubs are committing to guys who haven't gotten them over the hump in years far closer to their primes than what they'll be going through the next few years. And they have had some pretty strong teams in that time. Like I said, might be unfair to them, but I'd have wondered if maybe it was time to mix it up a bit with both clubs. We might have given Datsyuk a raise, but we also lifted a cup with him.

Wonder if they'd consider moving Burns back to D. He's a solid top pairing guy, and they're deep enough up front to replace him. When Boyle is gone, I can see Burns sliding right in.

they might, but I thought a fair part of the reason they moved him up front was that he wasn't doing as well as they'd hoped on their blueline. And it'd be difficult to then replace a large, mobile goal scorer like him.

Pretty good day for Detroit.

Montreal, Columbus, Philly, and Ottawa get 0 points.

Toronto and NYI only get 1.

Finally, some puck luck.

If we can swing 2 of our next 3 games, we can jump Montreal and tie Toronto (54 GP) for the 3rd spot in the Atlantic.

Tampa/Boston might be too far to catch but I'd be content with 3rd in this division.
