I read that article this morning and came away expecting the team to be back under NHL ownership in short time.

Moruelo doesn't seem like he's going to be a long-term owner of the team by the sounds of it.

Red flags sprung up with all the "we're a family" statements (aka we're penny pinchers and are going to make one person do the work of three people because we're too cheap to hire three competent people to do those jobs), and Bill Armstrong's cringey "the person I'd most like to have dinner with is Alex Moruelo because he's the most interesting man I have ever spoken to" lmfao

Icing on the cake was Moruelo Jr. apparently having the final say in all hockey decisions despite having little-to-no understanding of anything hockey-related (i.e. salary cap, contracts, organizational hierarchy, etc.)

Still don't understand what people were thinking putting the arena as far from downtown Phoenix as possible. Maybe they were thinking it'd be a lot cheaper to put an arena in Glendale, but they clearly didn't seriously consider that people wouldn't go out of their way to watch a hockey team play there

Other cities didn't want to pony up the cash to build an arena.

Sounds like they were short-sighted from the get go. The one area they shouldn't have pinched pennies is where the hockey rink is located since hockey is as far from a native sport in Arizona as you can get. They would've been better off spending their own money to build a proper arena in downtown Phoenix

The Cardinals ended up in Glendale for the same reason, though for football its much more feasible.

Poor location choice has doomed many a pro sports venue.

Ottawa has a similar issue with where they built their arena. And here in Rochester we saw what happened with a poor location being forced upon the soccer stadium.

I don't know if that is the case. The situation may have been that neither option was economically feasible long term.

What's everyone watching today? The Canes vs Panthers game was pretty good. Huberdeau is really starting to hit his stride this season.

Quite a few teams playing without their best players due to covid such as the flyers. This season will have a massive asterisk next to whoever wins in my eyes. Just terrible management all around by the leaders of NHL.

Predators not planning to fire GM Poile: report (nhl.com)

If Preds ownership is anything like the Sabres, them denying Poile being fired means Poile is definitely being fired.

I'm gonna speculate and say Hynes isn't far behind and they're going to quickly hire one of Gallant/Boudreau

The Sabres will relieve Ralph of his duties next year, after both Boudreau and Gallant are no longer available and they'll hire someone ridiculous

I never did like playing ice hockey outside in the daytime. Sun + snow/ice = me being blind.

Honestly, let Elon Musk buy the team and the arena. He can deck it out with his inventions and use it as a tax write-off. The NHL can use it as a PR move and then they could benefit from what ever ice conditioning system he comes up that keeps it perfect all the time.

Also, isn't there a Metro system that goes from Downtown to glendale?

Edit: that lightrail realllly missed the mark

The light takes longer than driving to really get anywhere

Seems absurd it is that far east of two giant venues
It was mostly built to get to the downtown area, Suns and DBacks, from the east and the North. It has really been a waste, ticket sales dont cover operating costs and its all on the honor system.
