Around the NHL — Episode XLXVII

Stuart Skinner two straight shutouts.

WHat is even happening right now

Vegas needs more skill.

With Stone out Eichel was centering the Knights top line with Howden and Olofsson as his linemates.

Lot of good two-way forwards but they are lacking elite firepower. I suspect they'll be in the market for that this summer.

Wasn't Hertl the guy they brought in to boost their offense?

They're going to find a way to sign Marner or overpay for Boeser.

For anyone suggesting they wanted Mitch Marner on our team, I want to point to this series against Florida. He once again has disappeared in the playoffs. He's very offensively talented no doubt, but he's soft as baby shit.

Yeah he has his warts but I’d easily take him here. Brady probably goes back to 80+ point form and Stu puts up 100+ points.

They haven’t had that type of winger sonce Giroux could still play 2 years ago.

I can’t believe this is the fanbase that was mouthing off about our series being all “home” games for them.

It’s so quiet in their barn I’m pretty sure I heard someone in the 300s fart on the broadcast.

They even mentioned it on the SN broadcast. They said "This place is as quiet as a..." and then the clip cut off in the highlights, don't know what followed, but I enjoyed imagining.

The Panthers must have all the confidence in the world now. They know they are the better team.. most thought that before the series started but tonight's game really proved it. I'd be surprised if the Panthers don't close this out Friday in Florida. I'll admit, I feel a tiny bit sorry for the Leafs.. I think they really thought this was their year.

And I think that's the main problem. In many ways they had turned a corner. Berube really transformed them and they were playing smart, playing disciplined, playing complete hockey. But they couldn't help that unique Toronto problem, which is somehow thinking they deserve to win it all. Closing us out, then going up on Florida, they started getting that feeling of manifest destiny. At the same time, with Stolarz going out, that entitled feeling of it's not faiiiir started to take over. Which is always a bit satisfying, because they're the first to be jock bullies when they're on the other side of that shit.

I think it’s that the depth guys can only do so much to help you win.

At some points your core has to perform, and well…

Matthews is a stud, if he wants to change his reputation he has 120 minutes of hockey to do it. Score and win 2 games and be a stud or fade away and be a local hero.

Marner sucks. How could this kid still think it’s a good idea to dive in the playoffs, like who is talking to this kid? Marner is stupid, why can’t this kid learn to check his victims ego first 2 months and take a hit so his team can win a Cup and listen to his coaches.

Marner is an idiot. How he allows this soft attitude to persist in the playoffs season after season - just a stupid player. Matthews is tough and he plays so hard, Marner is in pre season mode and doesn’t give a F, he wants to be a victim not a champion.

I agree but to be fair the diving worked well for the leafs in round 1.

It did for Marner in Round 1. But did it really, people and mostly the refs saw the soft plays and now they are in a fight with the meanest team in hockey he’s not getting any calls because the refs don’t want to be shown up and know Marner dives on everybting.

The refs hate marner, have always hated playoff Marners and he won’t get any more calls this series

Tavares taught him everything he knows. But the Leaf team fans go on and on, even before the series started about Stu.... I didn't realize how divy the Leafs were until watching them in round 1.

Marner on this roster would address so many issues. He'd be out best forward and bring out the best in Brady and Stu. We don't have to worry about his playoff performances because we're still a team trying to be playoff regulars. He might flourish in another environment.

Problem is, he'll cost $13-14 million on a 7 year deal. That would destroy our cap situation. It means we don't bring back Giroux, probably have to move Perron, and Zetterlund isn't getting much.

Marner is a top 10 scorer, but his cap hit will be like top 5 and he'll never hit that mark. That's a pass for me.

Tavares would make a lot more sense for us than Marner. Obviously don’t expect either to come here, but he’s a great shooter, will cost less and could sort of fill the role Giroux did a few years ago.

Would be a nice stop gap while Staios tries to find additional talent.

Marner and Matthews show no emotion, neither does the Toronto fanbases - you call that a 2nd round game 5 at home.

Leafs nation should be embarrassed about themselves first and the players second - Lammest fanbase in pro sports
