Montreal is hot, but not as hot as Buffalo with 3 wins in a row.

And wasn't that 3 of their wins? Buffalo, Detroit, Detroit.

They beat the Panthers recently but Bobrovsky feels very hot and cold this season.

Not to discredit Montreal too much, they're on a high right now but I'd want to watch them actually play to get a better feel.

They sweep Florida against back up goaltenders. Two opponents not needing to push that would rather get longer rests for their starters than win a single game.

Unfortunately, they are playing much better than they were in October-November. If Laine didn't fire up the Blue Jackets with his comments, I think they would be on a 6 games winning streak.

They had Laine coming back from injury, they acquired a RHD in Carrier and changed their back-up goalie. They are doing things to fix/improve on their weaknesses, meanwhile Hamonic plays in our Top-4, we have no quality backup behind Ullmark (Merilainen gave up last night though!) and our scoring depth at ES is questionable

I thought MSL had a bit of the DJ problem and they were not going to be able to play 2-way hockey but it isn't clear still. I think we'll still be able to finish ahead of them this season, but as I predicted, they are getting closer to be a real competitor for a playoffs spot. So until the Bruins, Lightning and/or Leafs regress, it's starting to get really crowded for 4 playoffs spot (or 5?)

Rebuilds are basically determined by your top ~5-6 players, by the time most teams go from their first playoff appearance to an actual cup win, the majority of the team has been turned over outside of the key players.

In doing comparisons it should be kept in mind that if someone showed you the roster of these teams in three years they’d all have plenty of players you didn’t account for so it’s basically just a total guessing game. Drafting only takes you so far.

That's what National Hockey League Talk is

yeah lol

I find that "Around the NHL" is one of the most interesting threads. It's the perfect place to talk about our direct competition too

Panthers/Leafs : they have more well rounded lineups and top-end talent, you'd think it would be useless to talk about them but actually, I'm surprised that they're only 6 pts ahead and we have one game in hand on both! No idea how long they stay competitive but they still could be at the top of the division for 5+ more years based on their makeup and the age of their top players.

Bruins : a team we can talk about, we have been expecting their decline for a while, 4 pts ahead but we have 2 games in hand! No idea about their future, outside of Marchand and Coyle, no one is getting too old. They have terrible scoring depth but yet are able to get wins. I think it's a team we can leapfrog soon and for several years.

Lightning : hard to get a read on, they had to make a lot of tough choices in the past few years but their management is top. But some of their guys are getting older so who knows.

Sabres/Habs : Sabres are the team you'd think would be giving us all kind of trouble based on talent but thankfully it doesn't always end up in results for them. I think they are our most direct competition for the future but Habs are #2 IMO.

Red Wings : I talked about it already, I don't see them as a big future threat. Unfortunately, it seems like it's the only team I am confident we will be ahead for our competitive years (Boston would be #2). The rest is all up in the air.

How I see 2025-2030 :

Florida
Toronto
Ottawa
Montreal
Buffalo
Tampa Bay
Detroit
Boston

Gotta find a way to climb to the top and stay above Buffalo/Montreal. Need Boston/TB to decline as soon as possible.

I wish we could have found a way to make Carrier work. Trade looking like a steal for Montreal. Trotz is a terrible GM.
Habs have a really good management team IMO.

Carrier should have been an obvious target for us. But we also said that about Fabbro

I am mixed on Staois so far, lets see how he improves the roster

Damn, didn't see how good Fabbro was doing

I also didn't understand why we didn't acquire Tomasino, I would have given up a draft pick for sure. He's 23 y/o, cheap and RFA after the season

Fabbro would be a big upgrade on our 3rd pair for sure

Tomasino is another good one

Never had a cell phone, until someone gave me one a year ago…. Still have not installed a SIM card… and no plans to do so.
Good for you, gotta keep that meddling government out of your affairs. Unfortunately your sim'less cell will still send it's IMEI to towers so that emergency 911 calls can be made, you should probably store it in a Faraday box until you have the time to open it up and remove any internal antenna.

In the U.S., carriers are not allowed to sell cell phone user (e.g. location data) data without the user’s consent. That’s not to say the carriers don’t do this. But if they do, they are subject to fines. In April of 2024, four carriers were fined. There is some debate about the amount of fines being a sufficient deterrent.

Posting on an internet forum from a computer but also worrying about the government being able to track your cellphone seems wild to me
