Wings have depth, but they have no star power. Raymond is the closest thing they have to an elite offensive talent, but he's not enough of a difference maker.

They desperately need someone like Kaspar, Danielson, or Brandsegg-Nygaard to breakout.

What the hell happened to Cozens? He was progressing like one would expect if you followed him. Not too complimentary on Quinn either.

Another article looking at the Buffalo/Cozens thing

Maybe they should start a chant for Lindy

Bunting on all of their top forward picks the last 3 years will come back to bite them.

Don't see any of those guys fixing their star talent problem.

It really is strange. Buffalo has so much young talent. And Ruff is a good coach. And Buffalo is a great city to play and live in.

Still faster than us with DJ Smith. ;)
Yeah, noticed they didn’t bring in a substitute teacher, to go back to basics and use the remainder of the season as trading camp….. they brought in a new Sheriff, and everyone on the roster is on notice, as they know he will at the helm for the foreseeable future, and not replaced in the off-season.

Well, the timing of the sale was not convenient.

Could you elaborate? Don’t think Detroit was sold recently, or has been, or soon will be, up for sale…

Uh, Dorion and DJ Smith stayed longer than their expiry date because the team ownership wasn’t going to make any big moves until the new owner (Andlauer) could choose his own people?

I as talking about Detroit making a coaching change…

You’re talking about the the Sens.

Well, Dorion was gone, and The New GM decided to NOT hire a new head coach, until the remaining 45 or so games of last season were used as a training camp…. Detroit did not make that odd choice.

Unless Demidov turns into a generational player, the Habs rebuild will be like all the others, slow and painful.

So you can only have a successful rebuild with a generational player? Having followed this for 30+ years, I'd say it's not true

Don't you have a history of singing the praise of Montreal's rebuild?

Anyone with half a brain and reading carefully can understand that it's not what I have been doing (but yes their rebuild was trending really well for only 3 years). I am following them closely, because like the Leafs, they are our most direct rivals. If all the teams in the Atlantic are great/elite (like Panthers, Bruins and Lightning have been), we are screwed. So far so good this season as the Sabres, Red Wings and Habs have not been progressing. We can't have new teams emerging at least until some other teams regress (Boston, TB, Toronto and Folorida still ahead)

Do people understand the concept of competition? lol

Yeah, and Detroit had the same GM so it’s apples and oranges.

I don’t necessarily agree with what Ottawa did but it was a very different situation.

I don’t think these situations are as different as some people make it out to be.

SS was brought in well before the Season, and he brought along all his contacts and relationships in the NHL, so it did not matter if he had been a Sens GM for three years or three Months, he choose the right move was to fire DJS…. Then he had the same choice as any GM who had fired a GM mid season (Vancouver/Edmonton for example) and he could have hired the best fit for his vision of the Senators going forward, from the available candidates….. But decided to bring in JM and let everyone in the organization that it was only for the remaining 45 games(or so) of the Season.

We’ll never know, unless there is a parallel universe where he hired a new head coach last December and began then to turn the ship around, instead of waiting until training this year to begin the process.

Will be interesting to see how the Wings respond to the new head coach… perhaps they move up in the standings and push for a WC spot….

Often there’s a bit of a new coach bump.

Reaction in Detroit is mixed, from not wanting to solidify a losing culture to winning now and ending up in the mediocre middle being unproductive from a drafting standpoint.

On the one hand you have the Sabres, on the other you have the Islanders in terms of worst case scenarios.

While I am not as optimistic as some of the Wings fans are as far as the future development destinations of their young prospects, I tend to side with not letting losing become ingrained in their culture because they do have a decent prospect pool they are trying to develop.

A team starting from scratch, like say the Pens in a year or two, is better off tanking because there is no pool to speak of to be affected by the team culture.

My opinion on the tanking vs losing culture is, at some point you need high end elite talent to win. If your prospect pool doesn't have any of those players, like the Wings don't, you're going to need to tank to draft high enough on the draft to get it. If you do have that high end elite talent in your prospect pool, you need to start winning so losing culture doesn't set it like it has in Buffalo.

I haven't read the articles yet, but it is really sad. I hope he can turn it around, for himself but also for the region he represents.

That said, I hope we can make a trade with Buff while they still have a brainless GM! Let's start the recovery of Cozens and Quinn here in Ottawa.

I'm interested in knowing everyone's thoughts on Macklin Celebrini - how good is this kid going to be? 90pt/yr? 100? 100+?
Legit star, if not potential superstar.

He has everything you want, IMO.

Can play with pace, yet slows the game down whenever he wants.

Has a great shot and is starting to use it - look at some of his laser beam goals from distance already this year.

Tremendous vision and playmaking.

Dedicated to the D side of the game.

Grew up with high achiever parents and siblings and hung around the Golden State Warriors to see what winners do. He will be 100pt+ and one of the most dominant players in the league within 3 years.

Feels like he's almost been forgotten here in the Yukon with all the Mckenna hype.

100 pt +. Jack Hughes level potential. Crosby type leadership and versatility. Best under 22 player in the league imo and probably not really close.

The fact alone that he's at a point per game pace at 18 with the frikkin' Sharks is enough to convince me he'll be a perennial 100pt+ player for most of his career. Kid is the new McDavid.
