Why? Why do teams keep signing this guy? He can't and won't play defense.
I think its a case of these GMs and coaches thinking they can be the guy to fix him. Tocchet basically told him this when he signed. Then it was evident that it wasn't going to work, and just gave him away. The skill is there, just that nothing else is. After being given away for free after waiting until August to sign, you have to think this is his last year in the NHL

Because he has terrific speed and an elite shot and if you’re good at putting pucks in the net, which until this season Sprong has been good at, you’ll continue to get chances.

If he played defense he’d be tailor-made for today’s game with his speed and offensive skillset so teams keep signing him hoping it clicks and he plays a complete game and they get a legitimate middle six forward for free.

Will never understand why players like him won't put in the work to work on their flaws. It's literally a 2+2 = 4 scenario for him. Back check, pay attention to defensive assignments = long NHL career for him.

He doesn't do it...why? Because it's not fun? He has the skillset for it. This is a job.

Agree for the most part, but if it clicked, he’d be a high end 1st line talent.

Guy’s that talented. But yeah, was obvious to me very quickly it wouldnt work in VAN

He was probably hoping on getting the Kuzmenko pay cheque after a season in Van.

If you had to put together the ultimate all offence no D line who would the center be if Sprong and Kuzy were the wingers?

In addition to being one of the worst defensive players in the league he is also pretty widely rumored to be a massive asshole. Could've probably made a few million more if it was only one of the two!
