I appreciate the NHL being wholesome and wanting to give nhl players time off during Xmas and thanksgiving buuuuuut…

NFL and NBA find ways to play on both of those days. Grow a pair Gary

World Juniors. 2nd best tournament in hockey after the NHL playoffs.

…and? as an ignorant American that I’ve become, this does not register one bit on Xmas day or Boxing Day. 3 day shutdown is absurd that no other league does

It’s starts on Boxing Day. And the opening games are always the hardest hitting and most savage so it’s lots of fun.

I personally think it’s weird people watch pro sports on Christmas Day, but hey, to each their own.

Worth mentioning that Amadio is outpacing Joseph by 10 points per 82 this year. Almost identical pace to his 3rd line mates in Pinto and Cousins.

Joseph season looks a bit like Pinto's. He was injured early and then has been pointless for 13 games coming back, doesn't get as much ice-time as Pinto though. It makes me think of Connor Brown who I also regretted we moved on from, he got badly injured and missed the whole 2022-23 season. He struggled for a big part last season but you can see that he is now rounding out into form as we saw last night, 14 pts in 34 games too. Joseph will eventually get back into form but the experience doesn't seem to go well in St-Louis, they have already traded his brother. Not sure what their problem is exactly, maybe they're very immature.

All that said, doesn't matter if Amadio scores more pts than Joseph this season, still wish we kept him instead of signing Amadio. But maybe there was something happening behind closed doors that made this impossible. And then, I would have liked a different signing anyway. I prefer Gregor to Amadio, who gives me Tierney vibes. Remember when I was begging Dorion to trade Tierney while he had a bit of value? It never happened and we had to let his contract expire.

They are just better than us. I don’t think we have much hope of catching them, I think our best hope is beating out Boston and the rest for the first wild card spot.

All of their cap is efficiently spent. Only Mosed is injured. We are overpaying on a few guys and we have 2 guys who have been injured almost all season (8.6 AAV)

Agreed, we have to target the 4th spot in the division. Florida, Toronto and Tampa are still very good teams.

I doubt Joseph could play for Travis Green.

Don’t disagree with you (and I’ve wondered the same about playing on Xmas). It does seem like there’s a market though, and the number of games has grown. Now Netflix is in on the action with the nfl. Hate to see NHL losing out because they’re late but they could do something cool in Canada at least if they really wanted

The only advantage Joseph has on many NHL players including Amadio is speed. Amadio is all around a better player; His details, board play, positional play ,just not as fast. People make Joseph out to be this hungry tenacious puck hound. He wasn't. His speed allowed him to get in the zone 1st and apply pressure with some disruption causing the puck to move quicker... How many times did that translate to a hit and a puck battle .. not many.
As with Brannstrom the contract doled out from Dorion was above market value for the player.

Agree, Tampa will be hard to catch

Boston is catchable, and keeping ahead of the Rangers, Penguins and Flyers are also doable….. IF the Senators goaltending holds up.

C'mon NYR, keep on imploding.

Granted, Kreider is having horrid production this year but benching a locker room leader can't help an already fragile group

Honestly they are probably embarrassed that this came out. Two grown men acting like children and derailing a team’s season.

One of them is going to be traded at some point this season, i’d assume it will be Miller.

It wouldn't surprise me if they listen on Miller but end up pivoting and trading Pettersson.

If they trade Miller, it is less likely that they get full value, because he has a NMC. Pettersson does not have trade protection until July 1st. They could probably get a legitimate superstar back for him. The only stumbling block would be moving his cap hit in season.

I wonder if the Miller deal would be something like Kreider for Miller. Lafreniere's former agent is the A-GM in Vancouver, but I doubt the Rangers would give up Lafreniere for Miller when they would be dealing from a position of strength because of his NMC.

There's that Bernmeister guy on the main boards who was going after me because I thought that Kreider + Kakko for Tkachuk was a BAD trade for Ottawa and nowhere near worth Tkachuk

But he told me that Kreider jumps out of pools though.

Yeah that speed allows him to be a top PKer, he's had some of the best PK metrics among forwards for years. Joseph is good defensively at ES and only average offensively but what sets him apart is his speed and tenacity. He had decent playmaking ability too. I know Amadio had pretty decent results in Vegas but he's just not my type of my player, remember how I disliked Tierney and Greening?

I don't see anywhere in the metrics and eye test how Amadio is a better all around player, both in raw and advanced stats. However playing with Pinto and Perron (if ever healthy) is going to help him.

I find that we need more speed and/or skill in the forward group, Amadio doesn't bring any of this. He's stable but not the type we need to get better overall. And I'm not saying we need Joseph back, I'm saying we need better skaters who bring either tenacity and/or skill

Devils are crazy talented. I’m jealous

We could have been just as good if not better. We were better positioned than them after the 2020 draft. Just that Dorion happened.
