Back in my day the first round picks would take over the game, they'd walk 20 miles (kilometers hadn't been invented by the commies yet) to the arena with their gear on their back with 5 feet of snow, up hill both ways!

This generation is lazy, now get off my lawn.
get on any web site that tracks...And lo and behold, you will find they did!! as in , in my day, they were better,

Here is a snippet.
2003-- the majority of players in the top 10 ( 8 of 10), had their teams in playoffs within 2 years. Fluery and Staal went to cups within 3 years

2004-- a poor year, except OVI and Malkin who are HOFs and all time greats. 4 cups combined, 5 appearances in Finals, All achieved tremendous success in years 2-3

2005- top 15, 4 HOFs, one legend (Crosby) about 6 cups combined. All earned early in their careers

2006 -- a poor year, but 1 HOF and 5 cups (Toews and Kessel), for top 10 picks.. All earned early in their careers.

I could continue... SO NOW, can you KINDLY COUNTER with the 2017-2021

I don't know what your time was, But in MINE.. Yes, top 15 picks walked on water..
TODAY's picks, sink like lead bricks.

THE reality is: this generation is worthless. they are being defended by themselves and the worthless parents that raised them. I am guessing you are one.

MICK...take two minutes to check, before you write. THOSE DUMB NHL commercials about that generation... It is to get ahead of this mess. They know it is true and want to get ahead of it.

Check out team Canada and see ages. See how many 2015-2022 are on there. Now see team Canada 2010 and see their ages... See team Canada 2014 and see their ages. See team Canada 1987 (The famous Lemieux goal), see their ages.

Crosby was 23 and the team leader in 2010, Toews was 22, Doughty was 22, Weeber, Seabrook, Bergeron 24. Nash, Richards, Perry, Staal..24 and 25. 13 of the 22 guys were 25 and younger. Duncan Keith wa sthe old man at 26.

NOW TELL ME ABOUT the 2025, 4 nations team????? all in an era where the game is getting faster!

WORTHLESS generation...WORTHLESS PARENTS.

feel free to examine the NFL, NBA, MLB and others for ages... here is an easy one, do the WNBA. See the USA dream team(s). Men's and women... See their ages. Compare to 20 years ago.

MICK..Normally I respect your posts. What you posted came off as a grade schooler, sticking his tongue out. Wonderful, mature reply from you.

The generation is irrelevant.

The fact that they rely exclusively on young players at all major positions isn’t.
two guys NYQuil.. two! have achieved anything.

Makar.. on a team with talent. Won a cup at 24.
Eichel. On a team of talent, won a cup at 25.

Now: Buffalo, Detroit, Ottawa, Montréal, Columbus, San Jose, Anaheim, Chicago, Utah/Arizona, have all been rebuilding for large parts of the last 10 years. All are have struggled. All have relied on Gen Z's.

It is why Calgary does not tank.. They have learned their lesson. It is why no one has tanked the last 2 years.. a Hard lesson has been learned.

Check out the NBA and the Raptors. in the toilette the last 4-5 years. Ditto for 4-5 other teams.
NFL.. the Jets, Patriots, Panthers and 2-3 others.
PWHL, WNBA
even MLB to a small extent. Players this side of 27!!!

Bayren Munich reached for 30 year old Harry Kane to replace 33 year old Levenkowski.
Real Madrid reached for 25 year old Mbappe and stayed away from a ton of 21-22 year old strikers.. This was unheard of 20 year ago.

Check out the ages of the starting 11 for Argentina at this years Copa America.

See the ages of the, Boston Celtics, LA Dodgers, Kansas City Chiefs, Florida Panthers, NY Liberty, PWHL Minnesota, LA GALAXY, Orlando Pride (heck Marta is 37)

youth!!! check out the Penguins, 2007 and 2008. The Blackhawks, 2009-2015, Tampa Bay 2010-2022. LA Kings 2010-2014

NO, I only yell at you.

As for my lawn, there is no lawn, Clay soil. Dogs can do their business anytime they want.

And you need to do research before you post. It is no wonder your children are worthless.

The league was really different back then.

The talent and speed is next level these days. IMO it has essentially nullified the advantages that young guys used to have, where if they came in and they could skate and had skill, they were basically immediately better than most players.

Nowadays everyone you’re playing against is skilled and can skate for the most part. So the advantage goes to players who have more experience, are stronger and have more of a grasp on the details that help you win.

The older teams on the list are actually the oldest in terms of age and experience, which isn't surprising considering the cap coming in made younger players increasingly more important post-2004 due to ELCs.

I'm not seeing a lot of variation that would imply a huge generational shift.

We couldn't have added Laine but there were several teams who could have afforded him.

Getting paid to add a 26 year old former 2nd overall pick that was one season removed from back to back PPG seasons was absolute robbery by the Habs unfortunately.

8.7mill for a one-timer on the PP.

Pass.

I hate that the Habs acquired Laine for the cost and circumstance, but Ottawa couldn't have made it work. Last thing we need is another big shot on our PP, we have 3 of those (Tkachuk, Norris, Stu), and the cap wouldn't work unless CBJ is retaining like 50% which wouldn't make sense.

Would've loved to make a move similar to that, earlier on in our rebuild (like that Monahan deal to MTL)

A big shot on the PP is literally what we need. We don't have one.

Maybe not a big shot, but we have 3 guys who can score on the PP. Tkachuk, Bath, and Norris (Tkachuk and Bath are top 10 in PPGs so far). Stu has that shot, but has been more of a facilitator.

Laine might have a better shot than either of those guys, but not sure how much its worth it is to move other contracts to try and make him fit.

It does seem like a degeneration to be fair.
The physical tools grow while it SEEMS, MAYBE, the mental weakens.
Got me thinking anyway.

Man I wish we took a flyer on Laine. Love shooters like that. Would have been a menace on our PP

8.7 AAV though, Habs were able to take it in full (Price LTIR helps)

Laine is a weapon on the PP but his advanced metrics 5 on 5 have been terrible

But a huge PP weapon and a 2nd round pick, what's not to like?

So what would it means if we went after Laine?

Not signing Perron and Amadio (6.6 AAV) but still need another 2.1 and to fill another spot (so 2.8). Basically, would have needed to trade that 2nd round pick with Forsberg (2.75 AAV)

Only Norris and Batherson have dangerous one-timers

And Norris injuries have impacted his efficiency, so not at all comparable

People shouldn’t be surprised at the return. Draft pedigree only takes you so far. Look at what guys like Puljujarvi, Filatov, Yakupov, etc. returned.

This is Kakko’s 6th season. He is what he is. And what he is is a younger, slightly premium version of Mike Amadio.

A useful player on your 3rd or 4th line. But that’s it. 14-15 minutes a night, won’t hurt you, but not a difference maker.

I think we need to look for a winger for Stu, but Kakko was definitely not the guy.

Soooooo, if I’m correct you’re cheering against the Sens because Stutzle, Sanderson, Pinto, Kleven Greig are all 22??? But you love Travis Hamonic because he’s 34???
