See what a elite goaltender can do for an average team! Boston would be a bottom team if not for Swayman and Ullmark. Goaltending is everything, except if you're Edmonton and your PP clicks at over 50% which is unsustainable
Skinner has actually been pretty good these playoffs.

Yes you can have a 6’3 #1 Center for the next 15 years and it will only cost you a Derrick Brassard.
Don't forget the Dorion bonus gift of a 2nd on top of it!

Jesus was that deal awful. He traded up for Logan Brown less than a month prior, so he probably convinced himself he had his #1 center for the future.

How have Mitch Marner and AM34 been Selke nominees in back-to-back years?

Are they really top 3 in the league as defensive forwards?

It is and odd transition from the days of Bergeron/O'Reilly/Stone or even further back, when it seemed very clear who the best were.

With votes being made public, they know they will get flamed for putting them at the top of their Hart ballot so they just pour their homerism into the more minor awards. It's like their own little version of bloodletting

An awful lot of voters work for Leafs ownership.

English Canada is 31 Million, the bulk are Leafs fans
Canadian ex-pats are about 3.1 M in the United states (probably more, as many do not bother filling in that part on US census). They tend to fuel attendance at American NHL cities. The bulk is English Canadian and the bulk are Leafs fans.

TSN, SportsNet, CTV, CBC, OMNI, etc. are all media outlet with sports located in the GTA.

Making Toronto and the Leafs the center of the hockey universe, whether the rest of us like it or not.

So, yes Leafs players get pushed.

Montréal is just as bad.. only there, they use the Anglo/Franco angle to fight dirty. I was driving to Montreal some 10 years ago. TSN990 had their drive show on.. And they argued that 5 or 6 of the awards should go to HABS players, otherwise it is a league conspiracy.

I mean, Norris, Hart, Selke, Calder, Adams. It was great to listen for those 2 hours. About the only award they failed to give the HABS was an Oscar and an Emmy.

But, on drives to Sothern Ontario, I get Riley is a sure fire Norris winner. And they wouldn't trade Mathews for McDavid. And Tie Domi belongs in the Hall of Fame.

The Selke isn't really the best defensive forwards, it's kind of a defacto 2-way forward award because the winners/nominees have almost always been guys that have put up points in the last 10/15+ years.

And yes, in the regular season both of those players are actually good defensively despite their lackluster play in the playoffs and lack of success. They'd both be the best defensive forwards on the Senators (fairly low bar mind you) and it's not particularly close.

The Karlsson trade was really good for San Jose.

They had to take on a lot of negative value cap, but they did it via taking contract dumps instead of retaining a greater amount on Karlsson.

To end up with the 14th pick for a 3rd and only retaining a small amount is very solid.
In addition to Celebrini, they can draft a very solid defensive prospect in Mews or Kiviharju if one of Dickinson. Grieg can build a solid foundation this draft.

The Selke seems to be best defensive forward who can produce offence as well, and under that criteria, yes they deserve the nominations.

One of the best, most ballsy picks in recent memory. Essentially unranked overaged guy taken in the 2nd.

Have no clue how, he was a 6’4 200+ pound D putting up close to point per game who can skate and defend.
Yeah. Unfortunately ballsy picks don’t usually turn out.

Swayman is one of the calmest goalies I’ve seen. Guy looks like he’s barely moving.

Bruins missed a couple open nets and hit one off the post that had Bob beat .. Right now the Bruins are everything the Cats can handle.

Boston actually looking really good right now, not giving Florida much.
Seriously, I'd written them off the way they were playing against Toronto but they look much better again Florida these first two games. Florida is getting good oz possession time but it's all around the perimeter and boston is pouncing on turnovers
