Edmonton not getting much respect for their defensive game, and that has been the key.

They look dangerous going on the attack but only gave up 4 shots in the 1st and 6 in the 2nd period. Gave up 10 in the 3rd nursing a 3 goal lead.

That has been a trend. Yes, they have been hemmed in and given up 10+ in a few periods but look how many times they are giving up 3 or 4 shots. This isn't the Oilers of old.

They aren't giving up much, so Skinner can be average and they can still win.
They don't give up alot in transition because they have great speed at forward and they're hounds on the backcheck.

Ceci and Nurse still play prominent roles on that team, and much like he was when he was playing in 2017, Ceci has a substantially negative goal differential when on the ice compared to the better defensive pairing.

The trick seems to be that if the Edmonton forwards have the puck and keep it in the Dallas zone, it can't go in the Edmonton net. It's working so far.

I haven't been able to watch much hockey this playoffs, but man Florida is just something else. Non-stop hitting and bumping into everyone, and they skate so hard in both directions, even if it's not a dangerous situation on the D side.

And as I type it, NYR scores.

Four Panthers wins away from the 2024 4th turning into a 2026 3rd
That doesn't sound like much of an upgrade when it's 2 years away

For real, they're the only team in the playoffs this year that has never seemed vulnerable to me.

Steve Simmons makes a great point in his column today

… If AFL statistics count for NFL players, and now Negro League statistics will be counted alongside MLB stats, why not have WHA statistics count along with NHL stats? If those stats were connected, Gordie Howe, not Wayne Gretzky, would be the career goal scoring leader at 975, followed by Gretzky at 940 and Bobby Hull at 913. Then Alex Ovechkin, well back at 853 …

Man people don't get over zippy it's like the girlfriend that got away geesh let It Go people.

The kids got talent and he performs well but just something to his game that bothers me. Yes, he's got the offense up the Yin yang. I think everyone here can probably agree that he's just like missing something to his game...... I can't put the word on it. Can't say he doesn't care but I can't say he's 100% when you need him to be..... Maybe it's heart, he has all the tools and the tool box and he can deliver but he just seems like his heart's not in it. I don't know. I don't care. He's dead and buried to me.

Senators should try that approach; unfortunately, the current Senators roster cannot retain puck possession to keep it in the O zone. :)

Happy for Tarasenko. Such an elite veteran.
Tarasenko could be available as a UFA this summer. I doubt we can afford him.

Real talk, I'd mark out for Paul Maurice winning the cup this year. 2nd all time in games coached, still in his fifties, a guy who is just as likely to lead a team to a missed playoffs as a deep run. Dude's great.
Wish we hired him as our new coach. :)

Remember when Winnipeg didn’t want to give him up for Mark Stone.
Roslovic and Niku untouchable

Well it was just a horrific trade. He would have be gone anyway a year later in the massive tear down that happened.

Is it actually an upgrade though? The time value of that pick must knock it back a bit
Well, if Florida wins the cup, that 4th round pick is essentially a 5th round pick since it's the final pick of that round. The 3rd two years from now would likely be about 40 picks higher.
