I think what NJ paid for Markstrom is kinda nuts. We need to upgrade, but dealing a first and a decent kid for a 34 yr old...at that point I'd consider going with 3 goalies again and planning on none of them playing over 30 games.

wouldn't be against it but I don't know jack about goalies. If Husso is still around, I'd expect Cossa to be up by necessity at some point regardless.

Eh, Devils are trying to compete and it’s nearly impossible to compete in this league without competent goaltending. I’m not enamored with Markstrom, but if he can give them league average goaltending for a couple years I think they probably get their value there.

Like if Lyon regresses back to the mean, and if Husso doesn’t bounce back, we are cooked. It almost doesn’t matter what the rest of the roster looks like, within reason. I think that’s a risk that Detroit can probably take this year, I get why New Jersey isn’t willing to run that risk.

if New Jersey was willing to give up that much for a Goalie I think they should have held out for Ullmark or Saros

that's the worst part of the trade in my opinion, I get that they were desperate but there's better Goalies out there

I think Markstrom is still a good goalie and he should help them be even more competitive. With the package they sent, I may have tried for a younger goalie.

Seems like the Caps could've brought Mantha back and got half-assed play from a talented forward for a lot cheaper and less term.

Even if Kuemper sucks with the KINGS, getting out of that PLD contract is still a win for LA.

i'm surprised Washington agreed to it with no retention like that, even if you look at Kuemper as a pure cap dump(which I don't think is entirely fair, he was bad this year sure but he was almost as good in 2022 as Markstrom and look how much Markstrom is still living off that year, plus he was better in Arizona before that than Markstrom ever was in Vancouver)
