Around the League: You Like Mammoth?

This was what I ended up concluding two years ago... I tend to agree. Especially because for decades (well before McDavid) Edmonton in particular has been the team that eastern media lionizes as the "good Canadian boys". Although I would still want the possibility of neither of them getting it, so I'm a bit torn.

When it comes to Edmonton, it was always a matter of when rather than if. Though the fact it took 9 seasons with McDavid/Draisaitl to reach a Stanley Cup finals was remarkable.

Toronto? To their credit....they unintentionally tanked and bottomed out at the right time to get a good cast of players.

It's pretty straight forward -- the team is a mammoth. Whereas, for example, Vancouver is composed of many Canucks.

I always looked at it like if I was on Vancouver I would be a Canuck, and with my teammates we are Canucks.

Or I am a singular Ranger, with my teammates we are Rangers.

So if you play for the Mammoth... are you like I am a foot of the Mammoth? My teammate is the eye and together we are a singular Mammoth!

That's why Hockey Club is so great, it removes any obligation for fans to suspend disbelief.

Edmonton is unfortunately a very deep, well constructed roster outside of their goaltending. They have few weaknesses outside of the crease. If they stay healthy, they can beat just about any team in the league because McDrai can usually steal 1 or 2 games just on their own. And to be honest, Knoblauch is an excellent coach.

I just puked in my mouth writing that.

I don't understand the quality of Praise their defenses getting

They're a fine group but I just don't see them at the Quality in which they are being described, you can clearly see when it happens and what a team has to do to break them down and yes of course I realized that it's two teams playing the game and there are momentum swings and things go back and forth but a team has to play 60 Minutes the same way against that defense and I swear they will come out ahead more often than not

Thanks, the semantics are obvious. I don't understand why that is in fashion right now for concrete, countable items like krakens, yetis and mammoths. (Is one player a leg? Another the pancreas?)

edit: Ah, @racerjoe, I missed that you noted the same thing.

I think they're an average to decent team with poor goaltending and two generational talents up front. That may be enough to win a cup in the right circumstances.

Last season's Canucks, with a healthy Pettersson, Boeser and Demko was also a team good enough to win a cup.

I can kind of forgive Kraken and Yeti because they are mythological creatures and, f*** it, we can just make up how to pluralize that. Mammoths were around at the same time the pyramids of Gaza were finished, god damn it!

They could have also added the S to be different than the Colorado Mammoth of the NLL as well.

Always liked the Mammoth. And the scientific DNA gurus are trying to bring it back to life in lab by marrying samples collected from preserved Mammoth finds with the elephant, its nearest biological cousin.

Can you imagine, the Mammoth winning Stanley Cup in the same year as the Wooly Mammoth is brought back to life in a zoo somewhere?

Just imagine the Mammoth merchandise that would be flying off the shelfs. So much better than the Orca whale or the mythical Kraken.

lol I am not sure about the deep part, I think what’s true that having McD and Draisaitl being so dominant that it gives them a lot of momentum and that makes the role players perform better.

I'm not speaking about semantics. It's my personal belief that sports teams are literal and substantiated embodiments of their names. There's a lot of evidence for this that has been suppressed by mainstream media, as well as by dominant political/religious hegemonies for hundreds of years.

Bandai has a push fit model kit of a mammoth, containing full skeleton, plus the skin and fur as an outer shell. The cool part is, the thing is normally white, but if you stick it in the fridge for a bit, it will turn brown.

That embellishment call that just happened in the Leafs game might legitimately be the worst call I’ve ever seen, and it can’t be overstated how high a bar that is.
Its ridiculous. Refs need more training on this. Rodrigues has no time to react to that hit from behind... much less embellish. Then you have Leonard last series doing Gordie Howes trying to get calls. There needs to be some consistency.

His head got smashed into the glass on a hard hit directly in the numbers and he went to the room… and he didn’t even lay on the ice for more than a few seconds. I actually can’t fathom that call. They even huddled before making it.

The audacity of the fans/broadcast to complain about missed calls against the Leafs was absurd.

Panthers should’ve had a 5 minute power play if the league gave two shits about safety. The fact Hughes tapped a guy and was out for the game and this nonsense led to a diving call is just insanity.

Matthews has also looked like hot garbage so far these playoffs. Nylander has been a demon though - biggest reason + their newfound depth that they’ve been better this run so far.

Never heard of Bandai or their Wooly Mammoth kit. But they must be thrilled.

Utah hockey fans just became a huge new market for anything 'manmoth'......models, t-shirts, hoodies, jerseys, Wooly mammoth fake tusks, mammoth drink cups, mascots--you name it, and they'll be able to flog it.

Could be the biggest marketing and promotion bonanza for any new NHL team. So much better then the 'Knights' or the 'Kraken'.

It's a Japanese company making Gundam model kits and some other stuff, yeah, loser nerd alert here lol. Doubt they'll have much interest in hockey though.

They did also release some lovely plastic puzzle kits for things such as...

Anyways, for Utah, I do like the team name Mammoth, the animal is thematic with hockey's icy environment, and the logo design looks very good too. Hope for great things for them.

Anyone else resigned to the fact it's going to be an EDM vs TML final? And then game 7 will go to OT and go on literally forever so this hell hole of a season never officially ends?

I get where y'all are coming from, but I'd be absolutely thrilled with an all Canadian team final even if it is Edmonton vs Toronto.

I'm still holding out hope for Winnipeg to win it all though.
