Um, they have this new thing called a trade. It works great in situations where the new GM wants to change his team's style of play.

In order to change the Oilers style of play, Chiarelli would have to trade virtually the entire core. Not a good idea.

That's why you hire a New GM/President, with a plan to change the core. The Oilers problem is they never had a proper core. How do you have a legit (Core) with no 1 Defender, or 1 Goalie ?

You don't.

The new management will change that.

Nurse should be able to take on No. 1 D-Man duties, it's just a matter of "when". Goalies, well that's not so easy or predictable.

How many players are in the Oilers' core? You probably think that there are more Oiler core players than I do, and yeah some of them can be traded for "heavier" players.

The core of McDavid, Hall, Nuge, Eberle, Yakupov, Nurse, and Klefbom is not going to be able to play Bruins hockey, plain and simple. This core could be very successful as a offensive minded, speedy team. What they need is depth.

Ah, sorry I missed this post. At a minimum trade Yakupov. Think about moving Hall for a good defensemen with size and some more forward depth.
