I'd bet when series is over which will be soon there will be hell to pay in cup or bust world capped out like many teams but its 3 goalies who are ahl level and an un tradeable nurse they are toast

They're pretty much f***ed cap-wise. But I can see Ken Holland reasoning that the Cup Finals was a building block (because he's senile) and going into next season with minimal moves (because they're cap-f***ed.)

So what happens if Connor McScoresy makes a Patrick Roy-esque demand? If he just says 'screw this'?

With a healthy Demko and Petey, the odds are decent we would have lifted the Cup this year.

Way she goes though. Sometimes she goes. Sometimes she doesn't.

If Drai doesn’t extend, they have to trade him. They should be able to get a good roster player + premium prospects + pick. Getting that would at least help build aome support and use that to convince McD to stay even though it’s super likely he is going to leave anyways.

This was their best chance and going out like they are will be a dark place for them where it goes is a big question but id bet it's not good

Too true......in this delicate salary-cap world you can afford one bad contract; maybe even two, it it's low enough.

But two or three bad contracts and it seems you're toast in terms of hoisting the Cup. It means you're plugging holes in your lineup with some sub-standard pieces who are only there because of their low-ball contracts.

Goaltending was big issue for the Oilers heading into this season.....and it's still a big issue. And if and when the Panthers close it out--it'll still be a huge talking point heading into the off-season.

In a cap world where next season Edm takes up $21 mill for McDrai, while teams like FLA pay Barkov and Tkachuck $19.5 mill, Van pays Petey/Miller $19.6 mill, Col pays Mack and Rant $21.85 mill, TB with Kuch and Point at $19 mill, Vegas with Eichel/Stone at $19.5 mill. They are getting excellent value for that money. It's that they've blown it in so many areas.

Even on guys that are home grown still require a premium to stay like Nurse.....

Kris Knoblauch is such an uninspiring coach... he always looks confused behind the bench. How does a guy like that give his team confidence?
I think he's pretty decent tactically but yeah there's something to be said for having a coach who actually shows a pulse on the bench.

I'm actually starting to come to the conclusion that a healthy 2024 Canucks team would have gotten to the Finals, *then* gets the snot kicked out of it by the Panthers. They have the D to shut down the Oilers PP, we didn't have that, perhaps Demko saves a few more but we needed another Top 6 Winger and we needed another D to upgrade on Cole/Juulsen.

they are f***ed anyways, it’s great. I hope they somehow convince themselves that they should go for another run and let Drai walk.

Just got home and watching the youtube highlight package, not to accuse anyone of bias but I couldn't help notice that outside of the goals they showed nothing but Edmonton shots & chances.

The Oilers far outchanced them and had more high danger chances. Bob was just way better than Skinner. Also, the Oilers were making a LOT of mistakes.

That's what was so frustrating about the Canucks-Oilers series......there's absolutely no guarantees of getting another serious crack at it next year.

The Canucks loaded up near the TDL with Lindholm and Zadorov, and may not end up being able sign either one. And there's seven other UFA's who may or not be back. Next year's Canucks lineup will, by necessity, be a lot different. And there's no guarantees that it will be as good.

Look at the Canucks and the Oilers. The last time the Canucks made the Cup final was 2011, and before that in 1994. Before this year, the Oilers made the Cup finals in 2006. That's a long, long gap between appearances for both franchises.
