Around the League Thread | The Conference Finals Begin!

Ya I went too far…

Tavares will extend in TOR, more likely than not.

Marner and TOR probably both had more than enough of each other, to the point I wouldn't be surprised if he's been flipping everyone off when they aren't looking.

But I just cannot see any scenario where any BIG ufas will want anything to do with this team. Given the stupid shit that's happened the last season.

We should hire more lawyers.

so the finals matchup could be set tomorrow and it's potentially six days between games???

what is this dumb f***ing league's obsession with playing hockey games deep into june????

That's garbage. Part of the playoffs is the grind and the momentum. And if one team can close out a series faster, they should be rewarded with more rest. But if either or, there's 1 week break in between anyway, what's the point. Might do more harm than good.

So the Canes and Brind'Amour need another, what, 21 years and 9 more trips to the ECF to get the necessary Ws to finally get to the cup final again?

(edit: I'll be honest...had the Canes played the first 3 games like they did the last 2 this would be a series going to 7 and the winner a toss up. But they didn't. Maurice even said during a mid-period interview that the way the Canes were playing the last two games was what they were expecting from game 1. So the opposition coaching staff was also confused as to what the Canes were doing the first 3 games).

Also, the big break between the conference finals and Stanley Cup final is stupid. No idea why they have started doing this. In the summer it does not take people more than a day or two to forget about something if it's not constantly in their face.

How big is it this year? Last year it was super annoying, and I can't imagine it will be any better this year. The finals were great last year, but I barely watched as it was finally nice out & friends started wanting to go out again.

League must have some sort of data saying it doesn't affect ratings, but hockey all the way until late June is absolutely ridiculous. Ideally if a series goes 7 you want it over by mid June at the latest.

Really the team executives should be anyone who aren't "hockey men", but alas. This is the NHL and 20 of the teams are run by people who are frankly stupid.
typically the former players who went on to get a law degree and become GM were the lower end players. Be it Quinn, Burke, Gillis, etc. However, over the past decade, we've seen more and more former top level players become GMs. Blake, Sakic, Yzerman, Guerin, etc.

No one way to become a good GM. Most of the NFL GMs never played in the NFL or if they did, they didn't last long. Lynch in SF is a rare exception.

By Hockey Men I mean guys who've literally only played hockey in their lives (no other career or education) and then went straight into management.

But unfortunately Castonguay has a major handicap in the eyes of many...being, gasp, female!

I believe there are 6 women in AGM roles now. So it is only a matter of time. Well past time.
Castonguay, Granato, Hunter, Madigan, Mandrycky, Wickenheiser
Imagine Castonguay having a trade call with Jim Benning.

I mean, Castonguay has a pretty similar CV.

kinda. she is a lawyer and was admitted to the bar in quebec but her only legal experience is working for momentum hockey agency. the other people referred to worked mostly in corporate law which is very different

2009 was actually the shortest turnaround with 3 days between the Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals which included 4 SCF games within 6 days.

2011 was when the bullshit schedule started which prolonged the SCF. I remember being furious when Boston was given ample time to rest followed by a 2 day gap between Game 1 and 2.
